Local businesswoman Kay McDaniel has been named the newest member of the Big Spring Economic Development Corporationâ€™s board of directors.
McDaniel was selected for the post from among 11 candidates by the Big Spring City Council during its Tuesday evening meeting.
She replaces Larry Rodgers, former CEO of Scenic Mountain Medical Center, who is relocating to the College Station area. She will serve on the EDC board until the end of September 2017.

Big Spring State Hospital will celebrate its 75th anniversary Wednesday with a public reception and ceremony reflecting on how the hospital has evolved since it opened in 1939.
The ceremony â€” â€śPaving Pathways to Recoveryâ€ť â€” begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Allred Building Auditorium.

Sen. Kel Seliger continues making his way fhrough the Panhandle, South Plains and Permian Basin in preparation for the 84th Texas Legislature that convenes in January.
Seliger, from Amarillo, narrowly defeated fellow Republican and Midland Mayor Mike Canon in the party primaries March 4. And though he faces Libertarian Party of Texas candidate Steven Gibson in the Nov. 4 general election, no Libertarian has won â€” or come close to winning â€” a legislative seat or statewide office in Texas.
Wilbur R. Pope, 84, of Big Spring, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Rick Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at the funeral home.
Wilbur was born July 17, 1930, in Novice, Texas and married Doris Newton, May 22, 1952, in Big Spring.
Roland E. White, 65, of Big Spring, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Ron Westbrook officiating.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at 614 Holbert.
Roland was born Jan. 15, 1949, in Big Spring to Roland and Beatrice (Crum) White.
He was a truck driver for Key Energy where he retired. He loved football, fishing and being outdoors with his grandkids.
Ben P. Hitt, 80, of Big Spring, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, in a Lubbock hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring.
He was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Lancaster, Texas, and married Dolores Sneed.
Ben retired from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. He coached Little League Baseball and was an officer for nine years. Ben was a member of East Fourth Street Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He served in the United States Army.
Tommy Green, 71, of Big Spring, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at Trinity Memorial Park with Johnny Cockerham officiating.
He was born May 14, 1943, in Fort Scott, Kan. to William and Margaret Green. He was a resident of Big Spring for most of his life. He was a retired construction worker.
He is survived by three brothers, Bill Green of Warren, Mich., Jack Green of Reno, Nev. and Paul Green of Chester, Va.; and several uncles and aunts.
