Nita Currie, 85 of Stephenville, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, in Stephenville.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel, with Phillip Boss officiating. Visitation with the Currie family will follow memorial services. Nitaâ€™s wishes were to be cremated, and her cremains will be interred at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
Melvin (Wayne) Griffith, 67, of Big Spring, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Stanton Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Myers & Smith Chapel with David Harp officiating.
He was born Oct. 25, 1946, in Sweetwater, Texas to Glennie and Jack Griffith. He came to Big Spring from Sweetwater in 1950. He worked in the technical and manufacturing fields for many years and also worked lighting for concerts. He later worked as a technician at Big Spring Cable TV and most recently worked for Morgan Ranch.
Becky Salgado, 47, of Big Spring, died Tuesday Aug. 12, 2014, at her residence. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel, with Pastor Kevin Knudson officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Becky was born to Josie and Armando Salgado Feb. 23, 1967, in Big Spring. She was a lifetime resident of Big Spring. She married Simon Alcantar, who preceded her in death in 1999. She worked as a baker for Great Western Dining. She loved baking, collected bears and snowmen. She also enjoyed decorating cakes.
Clara Hernandez, 92, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014 at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
C.F. Watznauer, 84, of Big Spring, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, in a local hospital. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
The suspects in the murder of a Big Spring man are in police custody after being on the run for two weeks.
According to Lubbock police, 21-year-old Mayra J. Caraveo was arrested Tuesday by U.S. Marshals in Hobbs, N.M., in connection with the Aug. 30 stabbing death of 18-year-old Fabian Rios in Lubbock. A second subject, 18-year-old Noel Serrano surrendered to U.S. Marshals in Lubbock Tuesday evening, according to Lubbock PD. Caraveo was in the Lea County Jail awaiting transfer to Lubbock this morning. Serrano was still in the Lubbock County jail as of press time.
Big Spring will have a small, extra source of revenue for the next couple of years.
During their Tuesday meeting, City Council members approved a plan to sell city-owned well water to construction firms working on the U.S. 87 reliever route.

She was born June 16, 1928, in Dallas, Texas, and married Clarence "Son" Ditto Dec. 21, 1946, in Big Spring, Texas. He preceded her in death Jan. 21, 2002.
Betty Lou Smith Miller, 82, of Conroe, Texas, formerly of Big Spring,Texas, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, in Conroe. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
She was born May 10, 1932, in Mitchell County, Texas, to Walter Earnest Smith and Lula Mae Slaton. Betty married Richard Miller Nov. 6, 1953, in Carlsbad, N.M.

A prayer service will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church with burial following at Mount Olive Memorial Park. The Rev. Joe Torres will be officiating.
