An elderly Big Spring woman was robbed, sexually assaulted, stabbed and left for dead on the side of a road early Thursday morning.
Big Spring police and Texas Rangers are looking for the suspect, described only as a 5-foot, 7-inch to 6-foot Hispanic male who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt at the time.

Trustees with the Big Spring Independent School District set the tax rate at $1.4495 per $100 valuation Thursday night, keeping the rate relatively the same as last year.
That rate â€” which will not be formally adopted until August â€” breaks down to $1.1195 per $100 property valuation for maintenance and operation and 33 cents for debt service. A public hearing on the tax rate will be held in conjunction with the boardâ€™s regular August meeting on the 14th. Formal adoption of both the budget and tax rate will be held later that month on the 24th.
Barzie Ray Fletcher passed away June 29 at the House of Hope. He was 87 years old â€” born Aug. 11, 1926.
He was born in Coahoma, Texas, to the late Carl and Velma Fletcher. He was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and one daughter, Judy Lyn Creel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Tom Koger, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Kenneth (Ken) Ray Large passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Obie and Cora Large of Big Spring, Texas; his sister, Helen Large Thrailkill of Stanton, Texas; wife, Barbara Large of Odessa, Texas; and daughter, Kimberly Large Carnes of Midland, Texas
Valentin Corralez, 76, of Big Spring, died Thursday July 17, 2014 at Midland Memorial Hospital. Vigil services will be 7 PM Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial following at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
He was born Dec. 16, 1937 in Cuchillo Parado, Chihuahua Mexico. He was a Catholic. He had worked for Clay and Lee Harris and more recently at Shroyer Motor Company. He married Margarita Mora in 1977.
Marie Nell Coots, 97, of Big Spring, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, in a Stanton nursing home. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.

FORSAN â€” Safe rooms will be included in each of the classrooms of the new Forsan elementary campus as trustees for the Forsan Independent School District were able to find funds to add the rooms back into the project design.
â€śThe safe rooms will be cinderblock rooms with a concrete lid on each one,â€ť said FISD Superintendent Randy Johnson. â€śThey are designed to help us whether we have active shooter drills or a tornado. We will have safe spots throughout the building to help protect the kids and staff.â€ť
