Elsie Spurgin, 66, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at her daughterâ€™s home. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

The Steersâ€™ redemption of last yearâ€™s 0-10 record is well underway.
Big Spring is now 3-0 as they head into Fridayâ€™s homecoming game against Andrews and senior linebacker Max Pappajohn has played a big part of the programâ€™s success.
â€śHe had the big hit of the game (against Lake View) defensively,â€ť BSHS Head Coach Phillip Ritchey said. â€śHe is all over the field making plays and being a leader.â€ť
Pappajohn also plays tight end on the offensive side of the ball.
Vocational training at Howard College has not only taken off, but is continuing to grow, according to the quarterly update received by the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation on Tuesday afternoon.
Kinsey Hansen, solid works representative for Howard College, reported that the summer cohort â€” May through August â€” had 31 students enrolled in 40 classes. All students completed the course, with 17 who have identified that their courses led to employment. Fall enrollment shows 68 students in 147 vocational training classes.
ACKERLY â€” The exes are coming home to Sands High School this week.
Sands will hold its quadrennial homecoming festivities, culminating with Friday nightâ€™s football vs. Highland.
As with many other high schools in the area, Sands will have themed â€śdress up daysâ€ť leading up to the weekend, when the majority of homecoming activities are scheduled:
â€˘ The schoolâ€™s drama club will hold a spaghetti supper from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday in the school cafeteria
Shirleen Knox, 58, of Big Spring died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at her residence. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Spring Creek Fellowship.
She was born Dec. 18, 1953, in Midland, Texas, to Frances and Hal Davis. She married Burl Knox on Dec. 17, 1987, in Big Spring. She has been a lifetime resident of Midland and Howard counties.

â€˘ BRANDON DAKOTA FEASTER, 20, of 1308 Ridgeroad, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.
â€˘ TONYA LADAWN YAGER, 41, of 1904 Alabama, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for no driverâ€™s license â€“ when unlicensed and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
â€˘ BLAKE MICHAEL GEE, 30, of 512 Scott Dr., was arrested Tuesday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
With the bulk of the necessary construction nearly completed on the pipeline between the Ward County water well fields and the city of Odessa, officials with the Colorado River Municipal Water District say the new system could be ready for preliminary tests as early as late November.
According to CRMWD General Manager John Grant, approximately 85 percent of the construction of the pipeline has been completed, good news for the drought-stricken cities served by the local water district.
LENORAH â€” Big Spring isn't the only area school celebrating its black and gold pride this week.
Grady High School has several activities planned in conjunction with 2012 Homecoming this week.
Festivities will be highlighted by the crowning of the homecoming queen during halftime of the Wildcats' game with Midland Trinity, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tunnell Field, located adjacent to the school.
