Grove birth

June 23, 2012

Aria Shea Grove, daughter of Aricka Sterling Hart and Kevin Patrick Grove of Big Spring, was born June 13, 2012, at 6:32 p.m.
She weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and measured 19 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are John Arvin Hart and Dana Denise Reid of Big Spring. Great-grandparents are Clifford and Jo Etta Hart of Big Spring and Travis and Jane Reid, of Coahoma. Great-great grandmother is Velma Reid of Coahoma.
Paternal grandparents are Richard and Michelle Grove of Big Spring and Robyn Baeza of Midland. Great-grandparents include Dick and Sally Grove of Big Spring.

Missy Adams and the late Steve Adams joyfully announce the engagement of their daughter, Kresha Darlene Adams to Carson Clinton Grizzard, son of Russell and Lori Grizzard of Midland. Kresha is the granddaughter of Ms. Kay Walker and the late Chelsea Waker and Craig and Paula Adams, all of Midland. Also, Taylor Hodges of Gerard, Texas.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday:
• DANNYE JOLENE STANSBERRY, 37, of 358 PR 6907, was arrested Friday on a warrant from other agency and possession of marijuana less than or equal to two ounces.
• SONYA GAY BIDDLE, 42, of 908 W. Fourth St., was arrested Friday on charges of public intoxication, possession of controlled substance less than 28 grams (two counts) and possession of dangerous drug.

Opal Pauline Ballard

Opal Pauline Ballard, 81, of Odessa died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at her residence. She was born May 22, 1931, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Oscar Elroy and Iva (King) Chandler. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Emmit Ballard.
She is survived by her son, Royce Ballard of Odessa; daughter, Clovis (Sas-c) Pranschke of Big Spring; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

William ‘Bill’ Warner

William “Bill” Warner, loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at his residence in Big Spring. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Stanton, with Pastor Richard Gonzalez officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012, at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1942, in El Reno, Okla., and married Linda Gail Bolay May 22, 1966, in Perry, Okla.

Rebecca Valencia, 95, of Big Spring, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at Texas Medical Center in Houston. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Sandra Ann Barnes

Sandra Ann Barnes, 51, of El Cajon, Calif., formerly of Big Spring died Thursday, June 21, 2012, in Big Spring. Private family services will be at a later date.
She was born July 14, 1960, to Patricia and Michael Walker in San Diego, Calif. She lived most of her life in El Cajon. She was a homemaker and a waitress.

Annette Louise Couch, age 58, of College Station went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 21, 2012. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Christ United Methodist Church, 4201 State Highway 6 South, College Station, TX 77845 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Jerry House officiating.

Grand jury hands down indictments

A Howard County grand jury handed down more than a dozen indictments in 118th District Court Thursday afternoon, including true bills for first-degree felony charges of attempted robbery and sexual assault of a child.

Among those indicted Thursday was 51-year-old Randy Joe Hurrington, currently being held at the Howard County Detention Center, who was true billed on a charge of attempted robbery, a first-degree felony (enhanced).

Area residents will get an opportunity to enjoy the rings of Saturn this weekend — compliments of the Big Spring State Park — as the local facility prepares to host its annual Stargazing Party atop Scenic Mountain Saturday.

“Sunset is approximately 9 p.m. and there will be a program as soon as it gets dark enough to see the projection, which is usually between 9:20 and 9:30 p.m.,” said Park Manager Ron Alton. “I'm going to ask the astronomy club members to bone up on their constellations so we can point some of them out.”
