Big Spring residents found out during the Texas Good Roads conference that within the next year and a half, there will be no new money for Texas roadways.
A tour of Texas brought State Rep. Drew Darby to Big Spring on Wednesday afternoon to address this transportation funding issue.
Since 2001, the federal government has increased its debt by 234 percent as a result of wars and other circumstances, according to Darby. In that same time period, the state government has increased its debt 281 percent. Total numbers of debt have gone from $17 billion in debt to $41 billion.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ WESLEY WADE RAWLS, 22, of 100 N. Cottonwood, was arrested Wednesday on charges of possession of marijuana â€“ two ounces or less, possession of drug paraphernalia and terroristic threat.
â€˘ JOE LUIS RODRIGUEZ, 19, of 604 Holbert, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for theft.
David Eugene Kukoly, 71, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Cornerstone Covenant Church with Pastor Michael B. Willard officiating.
He was born May 29, 1941, in Johnstown, Penn. and married Wilma Novak Nov. 23, 1969, in Johnstown, Penn.
Evelyn Maxine Johnson, 88, of Duncanville, formerly of Big Spring, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, in a Duncanville nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Joey Bacon officiating.
She was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Richland, Navarro County, Texas and married Thomas Duke (TD) Johnson Jr. in 1940 in Big Spring. They were married for 59 years until his death in 2000.
The daughter of Richard Allen and Mattie Clyde Fullen, she grew up in Forsan and Big Spring.

Now in his third year as head football coach, Trey Gardner is not just hoping for a third straight playoff appearance, he wants to move beyond bi-district â€” which is as far as his squads have gotten thus far.
â€śWhat we are building off of this year is what I call 'And then some'.,â€ť Gardner said. â€śWe want to win â€” win district, then keep playing.â€ť
In 2010, the Bulldogs played, according to Gardner, â€śLike we were just happy to be there,â€ť.

Big Spring voters will decide the future of the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation, the city council assured Tuesday.
The Big Spring City Council gave final approval to a measure calling for an election to be held in November, giving voters the opportunity to nix the existing Type A economic development corporation and replace it with a Type B corporation.
Local veteran Mike Tarpley was recently recognized as the 2012-13 Patriot of the Year.
The award was presented to Tarpley by the Military Order of the Purple Heart on Aug. 11 in Austin.
â€śAt first when I received this award it was something I couldn't tell anyone about, I was too emotional about it,â€ť Tarpley said. â€śThis is a pretty big honor to me. For the state of Texas to recognize what I do.â€ť
