Scoggins chosen by Angels in draft

One of the toughest jobs in all of sports has to be pitching in the major league. Not too many are called to take the mound against the best batters on the planet, but Reid Scoggins — who just wrapped up his collegiate career as a Howard College Hawk — was selected in the 15th round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on day one of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• PEDRO VALLE, 39, of Lubbock, Texas, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• JUAN CARLOS VILLARREAL, 32, of Lubbock, Texas, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
• ORLANDO LOZOYA, 24, of 5216 Treemont Ave. in Midland, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for driving while license invalid and failure to appear.
• HOLSTON BANKS III, 20, of 1905 Donley St., was arrested Tuesday on a charge of no driver's license – when unlicensed.

Bobby Terrill, 54, of Big Spring died Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Hospice House in Odessa. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the Salvation Army. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Salvation Army with Capt. Russ and Linda Keeney officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

Florence Virginia Winfield, 73, of Big Spring died Monday, June 4, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dwain Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Grand jury indicts Whitt and Guthrie

A Howard County Grand Jury indicted more than two-dozen people during its Friday session, including several true bills for a Big Spring man charged with several counts of sexual misconduct.

Edgar Dale Whitt, 54, of 4302.5 S. Highway 87, was indicted on two counts of prohibited sexual conduct and four counts of indecency with a child, all second-degree felonies, according to information released Monday by the Howard County District Attorney's office.

Mental Health First Aid classes held at college

June 5, 2012

West Texas Centers and Howard College are offering two Mental Health First Aid sessions to those interested in knowing how to respond to people with mental health problems.

Classes will be offered during a first session June 19 and 20 and a second session July 24 and 25. Each class will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Howard College with a one-hour lunch break. To register, contact the Howard College Registrar's Office at 264-5131.

• DARRICK DEWAYNE MOSLEY, 44, of 904 S. Aylesford, was arrested Monday on a charge of warrant from other agency.
• TIODORO DIAZ, 44, of 807 Anna St., was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
• KENNETH LABRON MACLIN, 55, of 1704 Scurry St., was arrested Monday on a warrant for expired motor vehicle inspection certificate and fail to appear.
• ROBERT RUBEN SANCHEZ, 48, of 1023 Stadium Ave., was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.

Joyce Aneda Davidson May

Joyce Aneda Davidson May, age 67, of Kingwood, Texas, was surrounded by her family Tuesday, May 29, 2012, when she passed away after a valiant battle with cancer at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. Joyce was born Jan. 27, 1945, to Leola and Truett Davidson, in Big Spring, Texas. She graduated from Big Spring High School in 1963 and went on to become a registered nurse in 1971.

James Alden (Jim) Underwood

James Alden (Jim) Underwood: A gentle, gifted man who loved family, friends and music.

Jim passed away on June 4, 2012. He was born in Coalburg, W.V. on May 14, 1919, to W.A. and Esta Underwood. Jim was the last of the W.A. Underwood family, consisting of the parents, two sisters and an older brother. Jim’s family moved to Texas in 1923. Texas has been home ever since.
