Police blotter 8-18-2012

August 18, 2012

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday:
• JOSHUA SEAN RESNICK, 30, of Humble, was arrested Friday on warrants for expired motor vehicle inspection certificate (two counts), driving while license invalid (two counts) and fail to appear (four counts).
• CARLOS MUNOZ, 25, of 809 Willia St., was arrested Friday on a charge of public intoxication.
• MICHAEL BARRETT ODONNELL, 58, of 2829 Hunters Glen, was arrested Friday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Edward Eugene Jones

Edward Eugene Jones, 83, of Big Spring died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, in a local nursing home. Private family services will be held at the Texas Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
He will lie in state at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home through Sunday, Aug. 19. 2012.
He was born Oct. 10, 1928, in Hermleigh, Texas, and married Dorothy Rae Derr on Dec. 27, 1974, in Houston.

Dr. Wendell Phillips Stampfli Jr.

Former Big Spring resident Dr. Wendell Phillips Stampfli Jr., 97, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, in Peterborough, N.H. A graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colo.
He was born Oct. 22, 1914, in McDonald, Penn. The family moved to Big Spring, where Dr. Stampfli graduated from high school. He worked in the oilfield in this area and later attended the University of Texas and the UT Medical School, completing his MD in 1940. He retired from medicine in 1979.

Watson Eutha Fay Bryce

Watson Eutha Fay Bryce was born on Sept. 12, 1928, in Ira, Texas, and died Aug. 17, 2012, in Roswell, N.M. She was the youngest of six children of Theodore Frederick and Annie Belle Moore. She married Weldon Miles Watson on Jan. 18, 1946, In Big Spring, Texas, at 14th & Main Church of Christ.
She lived in Big Spring for 22 years, Odessa for 24 and Roswell for 16.
Fay was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
They have a son, William Leslie Watson and daughter, Susan Arveta Watson.

Watson Eutha Fay Bryce was born on Sept. 12, 1928, in Ira, Texas, and died Aug. 17, 2012, in Roswell, N.M. She was the youngest of six children of Theodore Frederick and Annie Belle Moore. She married Weldon Miles Watson on Jan. 18, 1946, In Big Spring, Texas, at 14th & Main Church of Christ.

Saucedo birth

Jeremiah Ayden Saucedo, son of Jeremy and Ariel Saucedo of Big Spring, was born Aug. 11, 2012, at 11:23 a.m.
Jeremiah weighed 5 pounds 10 ounces and measured 17 ½ inches.
Maternal grandparents are Teresa Rangel and Jim Bob White. Paternal grandparents are Fernando and Tina Saucedo of Big Spring.
Jeremiah was welcomed home by his sibling Reqae Nicole.

Rea wedding

Ashton Lauren Evans and Jordan Blake Rea were united in marriage June 30, 2012, at Travis Park United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas. The marriage was officiated by the Rev. Dr. William Smythe of Longview, formally of Big Spring.
The bride is the daughter of Mike and Anna Evans of Big Spring. The bride’s grandparents are C.G. and Joyce Evans of Big Spring; Patty Vaughn of Alvin and the late Bob Vick.
The groom is the son of Patti and Jim Luttrell of Longview, and Dr’s. F. Dee and Karen Rea of Austin. He is the grandson of the late Ted and Martha Rea and Montel and Jerry Tessman.

Law enforcement center named in honor of Hogue

It was an emotional afternoon for many law enforcement agents in and around the Howard County area Tuesday, as local and state officials came together to name the newly constructed joint law enforcement center after fallen DPS Trooper Troy M. Hogue, a Big Spring native killed in the line of duty in 1994.

The new Troy Hogue Joint Law Enforcement Center — located in the 3600 block of W. Highway 80 — represents a first for the Crossroads area, as the facility will house both the Big Spring Police Department and the Howard County Sheriff's Office.

Fallen trooper recalled

Troy Hogue, a native son of Big Spring and DPS trooper, may be gone, but he is far from forgotten.

That message became apparent again and again during Thursday morning's ceremony to name the newly constructed law enforcement the Troy M. Hogue Joint Law Enforcement, which will soon house both the Big Spring Police Department and the Howard County Sheriff's Department under one roof.

Ralph A. Halfmann

Ralph A. Halfmann, 83, of St. Lawrence died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, in a San Angelo hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

He was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Rowena and married Mary Alberta Holder Oct. 5, 1949, in Rowena. She preceded him in death March 2, 2004. Together, they farmed in St. Lawrence for more than 54 years.
