Eduarda â€śEvelynâ€ť Flores, 79, of Big Spring entered into eternal peace Sept. 14, 2012. Visitation and Rosary will be held at Myers & Smith Chapel at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012. A celebration of her life will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Kinley Sorrells of Comanche, Texas are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Kayla Nicole Sorrells to Cole Dean Romine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacky Romine of Midland, Texas.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Laura Mae Stuart, and the late Mr. Godfrey Stuart of Comanche, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. Troy Sorrells of Comanche, Texas.
The prospective groom is the grandson of Mrs. Donna Romine, and the late Mr. Jack Romine of Big Spring, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. Toots Hutto of Del Rio, Texas.
Bacterial meningitis vaccine requirements, low unemployment rates and a booming energy economy are just a few factors feeding into an enrollment decline of 299 students for the fall 2012 semester across the Howard College district, officials said.
The overall uncertified head count for this semester is 4,553 students, compared to 4,852 for the fall 2011 semester.
As mistakes go, this was a minor and inexpensive one.
In their rush to finish Big Spring Independent School District's four new elementary campuses before the start of this school year, work crews neglected to install wheelchair-accessible crosswalks in front of the new schools and now must go back and correct that oversight.
During their monthly meeting Thursday, BSISD trustees learned of the district's plan for installing the overlooked crosswalks.
Wayland Pierce, who has served as the district's liaison with construction crews during the project, made no excuses for the mixup.

Velma Campbell, 82, of Big Spring was surrounded by her family as she passed to her heavenly home Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born April 24, 1930, to Jewell and Orville Gressett in Sterling County, Texas. She grew up in Broom and has been in Big Spring most of her life.
Gary A. Harris, 69, of Big Spring died Thursday, Sep. 13, 2012, at the Hospice House. He will lie in state Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, and Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
He was born April 17, 1943, in San Angelo, Texas, to Marietta and J.B. Harris. He grew up in Water Valley and attended school there. He came to Howard County from Water Valley 12 years ago. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1960 until 1972. He had worked in the oil field but was a plumber by trade.
It's been a decade since Democrats have been much more than an afterthought in statewide races, but Paul Sadler believes he has the experience and the issues to buck that trend.
Now all he needs is money and exposure.
Sadler, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senator, stopped in Big Spring during a swing through West Texas Tuesday, and took the opportunity to explain why people should vote for him rather than his better-known opponent, Republican Ted Cruz.
A South Texas native, Sadler touts his experience as a state representative as his biggest advantage over Cruz.
FORSAN â€” Forsan High School students and exes will be donning their best black and white duds as the school celebrates homecoming this week.
Few organized activities are planned for the celebration, although it is expected that several former classes will hold reunions throughout the week.
At the school, various dress up days were held this week. Friday, FHS will hold its annual â€śhall marchâ€ť at 2:20 p.m., followed by the homecoming pep rally at 2:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasisum.
