Many years of service were recognized as Lacy Edwards was honored as the Hangar 25 Air Museum July Veteran of the Month on Thursday morning.
Edwards, a Navy and Air Force veteran, received the honor at his home, because of medical reasons. The eventful, emotion-filled ceremony held meaning to all those attending.
â€śWe have been trying to honor him as veteran of the month for more than a year now,â€ť Mike Tarpley, fellow veteran and member of the Veteran of the Month group, said. â€śOnce he finally agreed to be veteran of the month, cancer hit him.

â€˘ AVEL ABREO RAMIREZ, 65, of 1512 Wood, was arrested Thursday on charges of evading arrest or detention, public intoxication and theft (shoplifting).
â€˘ JIMI LEE PAREDEZ, 25, of 105 W. Eighth St. Apt. C, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency and warrants for interfering with an emergency phone call and criminal trespass and a charge of disorderly conduct â€“ language.
A Big Spring man has been charged with aggravated assault â€“ family violence after law enforcement official say he allegedly attacked his wife with a machete.
Michael Dale Preston, 28, of 401 Young, was arrested Tuesday by the Big Spring Police Department on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury â€“ family violence. Preston also faces a warrant for revocation of probation for driving while intoxicated from Hockley County, according to officials with the Howard County Detention Center.
While the fate of the Texas Voter ID Law approved by the legislature in 2011 still appears to be up in the air, Howard County election officials are urging Crossroads voters to stay ahead of the curve and be prepared to show their identification in the upcoming November election.
The law â€” which was approved by the Texas Legislature last year but failed to garner necessary approval from the U.S. Department of Justice â€” went before the U.S. Supreme Court in early July, including a week of testimony by attorneys representing the Lone Star State.

â€˘ VALERIE MIRAMONTES GARCIA, 27, of 411 N. Scurry, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency.
â€˘ MARTIN DIAZ JR., 19, of 1611 E. Fifth St., was arrested Wednesday on charges of evading arrest or detention, unlawfully carrying a weapon in a weapon-free zone and possession of marijuana in a drug free zone â€“ two ounces or less.
Maria Holguin Chavarria, 48, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at her residence. Prayer services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
She was born Aug. 1, 1963 in Stanton, Texas, to Teresa and Cruz Holguin. She has been a lifetime resident of Howard County. She married Albert Chavarria Aug. 6, 2011 in Big Spring. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 2012. She was a homemaker and a Christian.
The vote totals weren't overwhelming, but they were better than expected.
More than 1,100 Howard County voters went to the polls during Tuesday's state primary runoff election that resulted in Tea Party favorite Ted Cruz wresting the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate away from the presumptive favorite, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.
Although Howard County's vote total of 1,169 represented only 7 percent of the number of registered voters, it still came as a surprise to Election Administrator Saundra Bloom.
Seniors are taking over the Big Spring Family Aquatic Center every Tuesday morning.
A new exercise option for the older set in the community, low-impact senior citizen water exercise, was started a few weeks ago and has been growing in numbers.
Classes take place from 11 a.m. until noon Tuesday â€” at which time the aquatic center is closed to the public â€” and will continue until the closing day of the water park for the year. A lifeguard is on duty during this time. The class is open to senior citizens in the community age 50 and older.

Donna Sue Franklin, 59, of Big Spring died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at College Baptist Church. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Park.
