The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• ASHLEY VALENCIA, 21, of 908 Nolan, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for consumption of alcohol by a minor.
• RICKY LEE ALCORTA, 34, of 1405 Dixie, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• WILLIAM LANE ROTHELL, 35, of 9500 Ranch Rd. 33, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
• JAMES ODELL PERRY, 46, of 538 Westover Rd. Apt. 249, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency.

Verl Dero Shaw

Verl Dero Shaw, 83, of Big Spring died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham and Craig Shackleford officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2012, at the funeral home.

Donna N. Smith

Donna N. Smith, 86, of Midland passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012. She was born in Duchesne, Utah, on March 27, 1925, to Alonzo C. and Fern (Gordon) Fitzwater. Donna had a passion for flowers and was a longtime member of the Green Thumb Garden Club.

Jerelene Bell, 89, of Big Spring died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Parkview Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Elder William T. Hickman officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2012, at the funeral home.

Jerelene was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Pittsburg, Texas, to Augusta Turner and Arthur Bell. She lived for a short time in Levelland before moving to Big Spring to be close to her brother.

Teresa (Walker) Polk

Teresa (Walker) Polk, 54, of Big Spring died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Mount Bethel Baptist Church with Apostle Ken Loudermill, Rev. Abraham Loudermill Jr. and Minister Kim Byrd officiating.

She was born August 8, 1957, in Dallas, Texas, to Laura and Abraham Loudermill. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Bahrain. She had been a resident of Big Spring off and on for more than 15 years. She was a Baptist.

Remains founds at airpark; no ID yet

Employees of a local business made a grisly discovery Tuesday afternoon on the McMahon-Wrinkle Airpark, as human remains were found in a pasture near the 2500 block of Apron Drive.

According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer for the Big Spring Police Department, the discovery was made at approximately 2:30 p.m.

“Investigators have confirmed the remains are human,” Everett said, “however, due to the condition of them nothing else can really be established at this time, including age or gender.”

Symphony coming home — to auditorium

Back home? Apparently so.

When the Big Spring Symphony' takes the stage for the final concert of the 2011-2012 season it will at the Municipal Auditorium, officials say. It would be the first time in well over a year the symphony has played at its longtime “home,” which has been under going renovations to comply with the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act.

The contractor met with members of the Symphony board this week and assured them the concert could be held in the historic auditorium March 31. Another such meeting is set for Monday, city officials said.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• ANTHONY ROBERT SANCHEZ, 25, of 1415 Tucson, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for speeding in school zone, fail to appear (three counts), driving while license invalid (two counts) and warrant from other agency.
• KIERSTEN LOUSEA CASTILLO, 31, of 1723 Purdue, was arrested Tuesday on charges of failed to maintain financial responsibility, nuisance-animal repeatedly at large, criminal mischief between $50 and $500 and fail to appear.

Raul Aguilar

Raul Aguilar, 71, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, in a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m, Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

Raul was born Feb. 8, 1941, in Munday, Texas, and married Amelia Miramontes June 3, 1959, in Big Spring. He worked for 26 1/2 years for the state hospital in Big Spring as a cook.

Teresa (Walker) Polk, 54, of Big Spring, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
