Desiree Anderson is pictured signing on to run track for Texas State University next season as coach Nick Roberson watches on. She was joined by her family, friends, teammates and other coaches. She still has one more season with Big Spring, though. The Lady Steers start their season in the Texas Tech Indoor meet Feb. 19 in Lubbock.
Results from Regional 1-4A swim meet in Andrews on Feb. 4 and 5

The Big Spring swim team's season ended this weekend with the conclusion of the Regional 1-4A swim meet. Below are the results from the meet.
The Big Spring boys finished 12th at the meet, while the Lady Steers also finished 12th and no one qualified for the state meet.
Howard men
The Howard College men’s basketball team battled through a tough game to beat New Mexico Junior College 62-57 Monday in Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
Joe Bright had 17 points. Carlos Emory had 10 points and five rebounds and Corey Stern had seven points and seven rebounds.
New Mexico Junior College was up by three at halftime, but Bright’s big game was a catalyst for the Hawks.
The Hawks improved to 17-6 overall, 7-2 in conference play. They have New Mexico Military Institute at home at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

February 7th
Barbara Couch, 66, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, in a Midland hospital. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Vevagene Williams, 78, longtime resident of Big Spring died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, in San Angelo. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Keva Lou Hays Holley Hancock, 83, formerly of Tuscola, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, in a local nursing facility. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Forsan Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening at Myers & Smith Funeral Home in Big Spring from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. An additional visitation will be held in Tuscola at the Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, in the Tuscola Cemetery directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home.
Melody Choate Cook, 46, of Stanton died Saturday in a boating accident at Lake JB Thomas near Snyder.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Barbara Kirk-Norris, pastor of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at the funeral home.
Erin Alexis Wheeler Cook, 28, of Stanton died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, in a Snyder hospital following injuries sustained in a boating accident.
Erin was born to Gene and Alexis Gayle Wheeler on April 6, 1982, in Midland. She married her best friend, Kevin Lendon Cook of Stanton, on May 15, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Stanton with the Rev. Daniel C. Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Floyd Forest Phillips left this earth Feb. 4, 2011, at home in Roxton. He was born May 21, 1920, in Glasscock County to John J. Phillips and Laura Ballard Phillips.

Ancil Don Worthan, “A.D.” of Abilene was born to Earl Darwin and Hazel Rene Worthan on Dec. 7, 1931, in Abernathy and was called home by his Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011. Pastor Scott Beard of Fountain Gate Fellowship will officiate a Celebration of Life service at the chapel of North’s Funeral Home, located at 242 Orange Street, Abilene, on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, beginning at 12:30, with his final interment at the Texas V.A. Cemetery in Abilene. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
