Sammie Estelle Meeks, 72, of Big Spring died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Ken McMeans officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at the funeral home.
Mickie Sue Haynes, 66, of Big Spring died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in a local hospital. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
A quartet of Big Spring High School basketball players received first team recognition on the All-District 5-3A team which was announced this week.
Seniors Cerbi Ritchey and Bridgette Tuitt were named to the girls first team, while senior Marc Segundo and junior Chazzell Robertson were named to the boys first team.
Ritchey and Tuitt were mainstays on a BSHS squad that finished third in District 5-3A and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.

The HC men's basketball team, which finished second in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference this season, will open play in the Region V tournament Thursday in Lubbock.
The Hawks will face Weatherford College, the third seed from the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference, in a first-round game at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Rip Griffin Center on the Lubbock Christian University campus.
The G.C. Broughton Foundation is taking its support of the Howard College agriculture program to the next level, announcing its most recent gift of approximately $964,000 to continue development of the G.C. Broughton Ag Complex.
The donation will bring the total cost to $2.1 million for the entire complex.
The most recent gift will fund the construction of the Phase III education building and a Phase II air conditioning enhancement within the Agriculture Complex on the Big Spring campus.
It appears a last-minute candidate for the District 4 seat on the Big Spring City Council will produce the only contested race of this year's local municipal election.
Bobby McDonald â local businessman and husband of incumbent District 4 Councilwoman Gloria McDonald â filed to run for the seat late Monday afternoon, according to officials with the city of Big Spring.

âą EDWIN LEE MATTHEWS, 49, of 1311 W. Second St., was arrested Monday on charges of possession of a controlled substance (two counts) and no driver's license â when unlicensed.
âą ROBERT LEE ALDRIDGE, 54, of 1006 Baylor, was arrested Monday on warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility and expired registration.
Toni Barron Choate, 73, of Midland, Texas, died March 3, 2012, at her residence. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1001 Goliad, Big Spring. The Rev. Barbara Kirk-Norris of St. Mary's, Fr. Tom Finne of Christ Church of Midland and the Rev. Katie Churchwell of Washington, D.C., will officiate. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Parrish Hall until 4 p.m.
Visitation will be at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring on Friday, March 9, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Jimmie Franklin Elliott, 83, of Stephenville died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Harrell Memorial Chapel under the direction of the Rev. John D. Shugart with burial to follow at Hanson Cemetery.
He was a member of Proctor Baptist Church.
He was born May 28, 1928, at Bertha Monroe to George Washington Elliott and Bertha Viola Monroe Elliott. He was preceded in death by two wives, Peggie L. Hale and Helen Chambers; four brothers; and two great-granddaughters.
