Donna Sue Franklin, 59, of Big Spring died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at College Baptist Church. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Park.
Annie Pearl Blake, 72, of Louisiana died Friday, July 27 at 3:15 a.m at Odessa Medial Center.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Myers and Smith Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Myers and Smith Funeral Home.
She was born May 25, 1938, to Daisy Mae Burns and Ethel Gibson. She married George Lee Blake in 1960 and they lived in Southern California. Annie worked at Hewlett Packard for 30-plus years and retired to Big Spring, Texas, in 2004.
Billy Strickland, 54, of Stanton died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Evergreen Cemetery Chapel with pastor Jana Jobe officiating.
Billy was born Oct. 3, 1957, in Terry County, Texas, and married Mary Shiflet on Oct. 27, 2001, in Stanton. He worked as a roustabout and mechanic.
Maria Chavarria, 58, of Big Spring died Tuesday at her residence. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Park.

COAHOMA â€” Area motorists traveling through this community, put away your smart phones and other electronic messaging devices. The city council has effectively banned texting and driving.
The first Crossroads community to join in what is becoming a statewide effort to stop motorists from texting while they are behind the wheel, the Coahoma City Council passed the measure during its July 26 meeting on a unanimous vote.
Howard County commissioners gave the go-ahead Monday morning to put a burn ban into effect, as local fire officials warn wildfire dangers are reaching critical levels with no immediate relief in sight.
Commissioners approved the county-wide ban â€” which will be in effect for 90 days, at the end of which the court will have the option to reinstate or dismiss the order â€” at the recommendation of Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tommy Sullivan.
According to Sullivan, the fire hazard in Howard County has reached extreme levels despite recent rains.

â€¢ ANDY DEMOND PIPER, 26, of 1217 W. Third St., was arrested Monday on warrants for driving while license invalid and failure to appear.
â€¢ ERICK SHERROD FRANKS, 37, of 2209 Cecilia St., was arrested Monday on charges of assault causing bodily injury and abandoning/endangering a child â€“ criminal negligence.
â€¢ BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE was reported in the 400 block of E. Fourth Street.
â€¢ CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 1800 block of E. FM 700.
The tradition of giving back to the youth in the community continued Sunday for the Chicano Golf Association as the organization presented 16 scholarships to recent graduating seniors.
In the 40 years that the association has been active in the Howard County community, it has presented more than $100,000 in scholarships and thousands more in other community donations.
Aristeo Hernandez, 81, of Big Spring died Monday, July 30, 2012, at his residence. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. Bernard L. Gully officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Park.
