Get voter ID while still time

August 2, 2012

While the fate of the Texas Voter ID Law approved by the legislature in 2011 still appears to be up in the air, Howard County election officials are urging Crossroads voters to stay ahead of the curve and be prepared to show their identification in the upcoming November election.

The law — which was approved by the Texas Legislature last year but failed to garner necessary approval from the U.S. Department of Justice — went before the U.S. Supreme Court in early July, including a week of testimony by attorneys representing the Lone Star State.

Cruz, Sadler win runoffs

August 1, 2012

The vote totals weren't overwhelming, but they were better than expected.

More than 1,100 Howard County voters went to the polls during Tuesday's state primary runoff election that resulted in Tea Party favorite Ted Cruz wresting the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate away from the presumptive favorite, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.

Although Howard County's vote total of 1,169 represented only 7 percent of the number of registered voters, it still came as a surprise to Election Administrator Saundra Bloom.
