The pace has quickened a bit as early voting for Tuesday's state runoff election draws to a close.
Today is the final day for voters to cast early ballots for Tuesday's election, Howard County Election Administrator Saundra Bloom said.
Bloom reports 227 people have cast early ballots in person and another 133 have requested mail-in ballots. She said 74 people voted Thursday, almost doubling the total of early ballots cast so far.
Voters will pick their party's nominee in five state-wide races Tuesday.
The fair is coming.
The Howard County fair will return for three days, Sept. 27, 28 and 29.
Gates will be open from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 and Friday, Sept. 28 and from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
â€śAt this time, we are trying to get the vendors lined up for this year's fair,â€ť John Paul Nichols, Howard County Fair publicity director, said. â€śWe are looking to draw in more than we did last year.â€ť
Mary Roberts Dalton, 86, of Big Spring died Thursday, July 26, 2012, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the funeral home.
Mary was born May 1, 1926, in Topeka, Kan. She married Samuel K. Roberts on July 1, 1944, and he preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1985. She then married James M. Dalton on Aug. 20, 1988, and he preceded her in death June 15, 1989.
Allen E. Sundy, 85, of Big Spring died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Herb McPherson, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the funeral home.
He was born May 25, 1927, in Flomaton, Ala., and married Pauline "Polly" Harrell on Sept. 4, 1947, in Big Spring. She preceded him in death April 24, 2002.
Betty June Wofford died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in Stanton, Texas.
Betty was born Oct. 7, 1926, in Southard, Okla., to John and Eythel Redden. She married Allen Wofford in 1945. She worked as a beautician and was a member of the Eastern Star and Order of the Amaranth.
She is preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by one son, Terry Wofford and wife Lora of Big Spring, Texas; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
Archie Collins, 58, died Friday, July 20, 2012. Family visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Faith Temple COGIC, with burial following in Fairview Cemetery under the director of Thomas Funeral Home.
He was born June 21, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas, to David and Marise Collins and married Veronica Sterling in May 2012. He attended schools in Midland and graduated from Midland High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was employed with Sendero Drilling Co. until his death.
Paul Deleon, 60, of Big Spring died Wednesday, July 25, 2012. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Despite a strong public outcry to let the Big Spring Spring Economic Development Corporation remain a Type A agency from board members â€” present and former â€” and local residents, the city council voted unanimously Tuesday night to move forward with efforts to have the issue taken to the voters in November during a special election.

â€˘ ALEXANDER TAPIA, 27, of 1315 Park St., was arrested Tuesday on a warrant from another agency.
â€˘ NATHANIEL DEVON LANG, 18, of 1505 Johnson St., was arrested Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana â€“ two ounces or less and failure to identify as a fugitive â€“ giving false information.
â€˘ BILLY CHRISTENSEN, 25, of Snyder, Texas, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of shoplifting (theft) â€“ more than $50 and less than $500.
â€˘ THEFT was reported in the 400 block of S. Birdwell Lane.
Mary Elizabeth Birks died June 9, 2012, at the age of 75. She was born in Stanton, Texas, to Leonard and Sallie White.
She is survived by her loving family, including her son, Michael McGann Sambogna and partner Ron Watterson; daughter, Nancy Shoults and husband Mike and their children, Erin Elizabeth, Michael David and Hannah Ann Shoults; daughter, Patricia Hardiman and husband Mike and their daughters, Whitley Elizabeth Esteban, Samantha Ann Esteban and Lilli Grace Hardiman; son, Felix Sambogna and wife Karen and their children, Jordan Elizabeth and Ryan Dominic Sambogna.
