NEW YORK — Former Big Spring High School athlete Ryan Tannehill was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the NFL draft Thursday.
Tannehill was the eighth pick overall and the third quarterback chosen behind Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.
The Dolphins must think highly of Tannehill. He is the first quarterback the organization has used a first round pick on since the legendary gunslinger Dan Marino.
That doesn't seem to be bothering the young superstar, as he told the Miami Herald, “I don't think there is any pressure or anything like that from that connection.”
MIDLAND — Forsan Head Softball Coach Shanna Taylor was happy to get away with an 11-3 win last night against the Crane Ladybirds in the opening round of District 3-2A play.
Despite the lopsided score, Forsan gave Crane several opportunities to snatch the victory from their hands, but when the situation appeared to be turning dire, the Lady Buffs' offense came alive and timely hitting saved the season.
Volunteer firefighters battled a blaze west of Big Spring Wednesday that scorched hundreds of acres but did not result in any injuries or significant property damage.
A spark from a passing train is the likely cause of the fire, which began around noon Wednesday near Bates Road just west of the Big Spring city limits.
“After that, the winds picked up the fire and pushed it in several directions,” said Tommy Sullivan, chief of the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department.
