It's no secret that water — or the lack of it — is a major topic of discussion in West Texas, and, as expected, that's what dominated the first installment of the State of the Community series Tuesday.
“Communication is a key issue in our community and I think we need to hear from these guys and know what is going on day to day with the entities in our county,” Jan Foresyth, Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce president, said.
Representatives were on hand from the city of Big Spring, Howard County, Big Spring Economic Development and the Colorado River Municipal Water District.

FORSAN — The number 13 was lucky for the Buffaloes’ baseball squad Tuesday, as that was the number of Lubbock Roosevelt players that pitcher Payton Parker struck out during a dominating performance from the mound.
Parker kept the Buffaloes’ hopes for a win alive throughout a tight game until his team was able to rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, defeating the Eagles 6-2.
The win places Forsan alone in first place in District 3-2A with a 5-0 league mark.
Law enforcement officials say it could be some time before pathology reports are back and investigators have more information on the human remains found March 20 at McMahon-Wrinkle Airpark.
According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the BSPD, the investigation is ongoing.
“It could be three or four weeks, or it could be two or three months. There's really no way to know how long it will take to get results back at this point,” Everett said. “All we can do right now is wait for the reports.”
It's exciting. It will leave you dancing in the aisle. And it's free.
No, it's not a dance contest, but there is plenty of sneaker-scootin' and moving to the music.
The event is West Texas Center's eighth annual Hoops Dreams and Goals, and it is set for all day Friday at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
Ten teams from across West Texas will participate in the high-energy, bracket-driven basketball tournament, punctuated by sometimes intense, sometimes inspirational, music. “Eye of the Tiger” anyone?
