The Sands Mustangs and Grady Wildcats have played plenty of big games over the years, but none will be bigger than Saturday's basketball contest between the two schools.
The Mustangs and Wildcats were scheduled to play at 2 p.m. Saturday in the championship game of the Region I-1A Div. II Tournament at South Plains College in Levelland. And the stakes â€” a spot in the state basketball tournament for the winner â€” couldn't be bigger.
A Big Spring man found guilty on multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child this week in 118th District Court was sentenced Thursday to serve 35 consecutive years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility.
Ernesto Dutchover Garcia, 60, 1300 E. 11th Place, was found guilty by a jury on one count of indecency with a child and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to Assistant District Attorney Robin Orr.
Lola Lamb has been intrigued by rocks since the 1970s, when her mother got her interested in the Big Spring Prospector's Club.

â€˘ LUIS ADOLFO PENA, 33, of 1105 E. 14th St., was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency.
â€˘ SAMANTHA CYBIL LINDQUIST, 26, of 1306 Tucson, was arrested Thursday on a charge of theft.
Victoria â€śMommyâ€ť Escovedo, 71, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Hospice of Midland Inpatient Unit. Vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
The Howard College women's basketball team ended its season on a winning note, but the Hawks needed every second on the clock to do it.
Senior guard Kali Jerrell hit two free throws with no time remaining to give Howard a 61-59 victory over Frank Phillips College in the regular-season finale for both teams at Garrett Coliseum Thursday evening.
In Thursday's nightcap, the Howard men's team needed no such late heroics as it tuned up for the upcoming Region V Tournament with a 75-54 win over Frank Phillips.

A Big Spring man was found guilty of sexual assault of a child â€” a first-degree felony â€” in 118th District Court Wednesday, with sentencing expected to take place today.
Ernesto Dutchover Garcia, 60, 1300 E. 11th Place, was found guilty on several counts of sexual assault of a child Tuesday afternoon following several hours of deliberation by a jury.
