Coahoma remains undefeated in district

October 9, 2011

Coahoma junior Aaron Acevedo hit the ground running Friday night and never let up, as the Bulldogs defeated Post 47-29 in District 2-2A action. The speedy back rushed for 198 yards and four touchdowns as Coahoma improved to 4-3 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in district.

“We really weren't sure if Aaron was going to play,” Coahoma's head coach, Trey Gardner said. “He had hurt his elbow last week and he did not practice until Wednesday.”

Forsan keeps Anson winless

October 9, 2011

In a close, wind-blown game Friday night, the Forsan Buffaloes improved their record to 5-1 (2-0 in district) by defeating the Anson Tigers 28-20.

Forsan's head coach, Jason Phillips hit the nail on the head earlier this week when he said Anson was the best 0-6 team around, warning his players not to overlook the Tigers. His words would prove prophetic as Anson matched Forsan in just about every offensive category during this district match-up.

“We knew they would be better than their record indicated,” Coach Phillips said. “They got after us pretty hard in this one.”

Lions roar into Big Spring

October 9, 2011

Garrett Stuteville dove over the goal line on a one yard run early in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7, but it would be the lone score for the Steers, as Big Spring falls in their district opener 38-7.

Stuteville's score came as a result of an interception by Lukas Falcon, as the Steers defense held the powerful running game of Brownwood close during the first half.

“That seems to be our M.O.,” Big Spring's head coach Phillip Ritchey said. “We can keep them close for a half.”
