Nominations due now for Man, Woman of Year

Nominations for Man and Woman of the Year are being accepted through Monday at the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Man and Woman of the Year will be announced during the annual Chamber banquet Jan. 31. Any member of the Chamber can make a nomination, but it must be submitted in written form.

All nominations will need to be approved by the selection committee in order to ensure the relevant information is received about the nominee.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• DUSTIN WAYNE OLSEN, 28, of 3800 Noble Dr. in Snyder, was arrested Thursday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
• NATIVIDAD TREVINO ROBLES, 36, of 2202 S. Runnels, was arrested Thursday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
• FELIPE HERNANDEZ HERNANDEZ, 58, of 2707 Hernandez Rd., was arrested Thursday on two warrants from two other agencies.

Olga DeAnda Chávez

Olga DeAnda Chávez, a lifelong resident of Big Spring, passed away Jan. 4, 2012, in the loving care of family and friends. She courageously fought a battle with cancer for 10 months.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

Sandra G. Krejci Fisher, 56, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at her home in San Antonio, Texas. She was born April 29, 1955, in El Campo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Annie Krejci; and her grandparents, John and Rosina Veselka and Jim and Aloise Krejci, all of El Campo.

She is survived by a daughter, Veronica A. Fisher of Big Spring, Texas; a son, James D. Fisher of Rosenberg, Texas; sisters, Betty Giesie, of Glendale, Ariz, Rosie Giesie, of Sun City, Ariz., and Marie Enax of Rosenberg, Texas; one brother, Mark Krejci of Rosenberg, Texas; and one granddaughter.

HC to expand in San Angelo

Howard College is expanding its presence in San Angelo.

HC officials have announced their intentions to accommodate the college’s fastest-growing campus by increasing classroom and lab space in San Angelo.

Taxpayers can breathe easy, though — no tax dollars will be used in the expansion, officials promise.

Rapid growth in San Angelo — enrollment there has more than doubled in the past few years — means Howard is outgrowing its current quarters at the West Texas Training Center.

Judge Barr sees positive 2012 for county

Elevated mineral and oil valuations have the coming year looking good, according to Howard County Judge Mark Barr, who said the county still faces a number of serious — yet manageable — issues.

One of those issues, according to Barr, will be the state of county roads, most notably those traveled by oil and energy companies on the counties outer edges.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• JOMAR DEMOND ADAMS, 29, of 505 S. Young, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.
• KODY CHANCE JACKSON, 26, of 3217 Fenn St., was arrested Wednesday on warrants for possession of marijuana – two ounces or less in a drug free zone, failure to maintain financial responsibility, failure to appear and driving while license invalid.
