Robert Henry Long, 87, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, in a local nursing home. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at the Nalley-PIckle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Internment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring, Texas.

Steven Wayne Brackett, 56, formerly of Big Spring, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Heart of Worship Church, 19101 FM 1730, Lubbock, Texas. The Big Spring Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that took place at a convenience store in the 800 block of East Interstate Highway 20 Thursday evening.
According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the BSPD, officers were called to the Star Stop No. 8 at approximately 8:50 p.m. in response to an aggravated robbery.
There is no more room at the inn — the inn for animals, that is.
Howard County Humane Society is at a point where animals are having to be turned away. As of Thursday afternoon, the shelter was housing 159 dogs and 65 cats.
“If we can take an animal we will and the situation changes daily, but the normal flow is for every one animal we adopt out we have one or two to take its place,” Jo Stone, Humane Society coordinator, said.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
â¢ MICHAEL ANGELO GARZA, 23, of 601 N.W. Fifth St., was arrested Thursday on a charge of evading arrest/detention.
â¢ AISHA MALIK, 22, of 3304 W. Highway 80 Apt. 40, was arrested Thursday on a charge of assault â family violence.
â¢ BRANDON DENNIS OLIVETTI, 19, of 1403 Oil Mill Rd., was arrested Thursday on a charge of assault â family violence.
Dean Forrest, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Fourth and Scurry Street, Big Spring, Texas, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, with pastors Dr. Keith Wiseman and the Rev. Bill Ivins officiating. A reception will follow in Garrett Hall.
Dean, son of W.H. and Jewell Forrest, was born Nov. 22, 1927, in the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Tom Rogers. He was a lifetime resident of Howard County, Texas.
W.C. âCurleyâ Hayes, 91, of Cleburne passed away Dec. 24, 2011, following a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 27, 1920, in Linden, Texas, to Ira and Lois Hayes, Curley had three sisters, Bertha, Oleta and Oneta and two brothers, Joe and Doyle. He wed Rita Duren in Big Spring, Texas, on Aug. 4, 1943.
Robert E. Dalsing Sr., 46, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, in a Snyder hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Ron Sears officiating. Graveside services will be at noon Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
He was born Oct. 20, 1965, in Independence, Kan., and married Robyn Watson on Aug. 27, 1987, in Olathe, Kan.
Robert was currently serving as the pastor at Birdwell Lane Baptist Church in Big Spring and as a chaplain with Howard County.
