Rob Alden Shive

August 20, 2014

Rob Alden Shive, 62, of Lubbock passed away Aug. 3, 2014 in Warsaw, Poland. Rob was born Dec. 12, 1951, to Mr. and Mrs. Rex Shive. He graduated from Coahoma High School where he excelled in public speaking, winning state competition as a junior. He then graduated from Texas Tech, and after graduation spent 15 years working for the Texas Tech University School of Allied Health, becoming an Assistant Dean of Admissions. He served as a recruiter for Tech, traveling the state meeting with prospective students.

E. D. 'Wimp' Holcomb

E. D. "Wimp" Holcomb, 81, of Big Spring, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, in a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at the 14th and Main Church of Christ with Rick Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Wimp was born Nov. 28, 1932, in Martin County to the late Earl and Gurtha (Lewis) Holcomb. He married Evelyn Roberts Jan. 24, 1951, in Knott, Texas.

Iona M. Hardison

Iona M. Hardison, 91, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with the Rev. Andy Miller officiating.

2 injured in altercation

August 19, 2014

Big Spring police are investigating an early Sunday stabbing that occurred in the western section of town.

Joshua Pierce, 30, and John Sipes, 58, were both seriously injured in the incident, which happened around 1 a.m. Sunday in in the 1300 block of Park Street.

Gas prices continue downward slide

August 19, 2014

Average retail gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 1.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.26 per gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 13,114 gas outlets in Texas.

This compares with the national average that has increased 2.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.49/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
