Kelsie Guinn punched her ticket to the Region I-3A Golf Tournament in grand fashion on Monday afternoon. The Big Spring High School senior fired a final round of 76 and nailed down the District 4-3A girls’ golf crown.

Lady Steers excited about title chances

The Big Spring High School Lady Steers’ aren’t afraid to admit their ultimate goal is a little higher than just winning a district championships. That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t like to win the District 4-3A Track and Field Championship.

District track meet set for this afternoon

The District 4-3A Track and Field Championships will be held today and on April 10 at Blankenship Field on the campus of Big Spring High School. The top performers in each event will advance to the Area track meet on April 17 in Pecos.

Broadcasting fix on council agenda

For those who watch Big Spring area governmental body meetings on cable channel 17 — or at least have tried to — the city council has a deal for you.

The council will consider a resolution which would beef up video and audio recording capabilities of several area entities when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers, 307 E. Fourth.

Trio medal at UIL one-act contest

Three Big Spring High School acting students earned honors at the UIL One Act Play competition held in Snyder Saturday, March 29.

“Unfortunately, we did not advance but brought home three acting awards,” said Tabatha Wright, high school theater teacher and director of the play. “All young men that won acting awards are first year actors. We are in a very tough district, and I believe that BSHS Theatre did a fantastic job and performed to the best of their ability.”

Students, parents ready to come up with graduation plan

Current eighth-grade Big Spring students and their parents will begin meeting with school counselors Monday to select a graduation plan as school districts across Texas prepare to implement a new set of graduation plans for the fall of 2014.
“One of the requirements implemented through House Bill 5, is that a parent and student must sign off on the plan that they choose, so it is extremely important that parents and students plan to attend the sessions next week,” said Mike Ritchey, Big Spring High School principal.

Big Spring stuns No. 9 Wylie, 5-4

The Big Spring High School Steers notched one of its biggest wins of the season on Friday evening in front of a large crowd at Steer Park. And they put themselves right in the middle of the postseason talk by doing it.
Big Spring, backed by a pair of hits from Brett Brorman and Gary Watkins, pushed across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning and claimed a thrilling 5-4 victory over ninth-ranked Abilene Wylie in District 4-3A action.
