Jeanine Huskey, 75, of Big Spring died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at her residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
The Big Spring Lady Steers basketball team is off and running, winning their first two games of the young season. The girls defeated Abilene Cooper 40-27 this weekend in a game which relied heavily on the defense skills of Big Spring.
The Lady Steers got into a bit of foul trouble early in the game, but fought their way through it to claim a tough road victory, remaining undefeated.
Bridgette Tuitt led the Lady Steers with 12 points, followed closely by Mackenzie Stone with nine, who knocked down three 3-pointers for Big Spring.
The Big Spring Junior High tennis teams placed first and second in the Midland Christian tennis tournament this weekend.
The seventh grade team finished with a second place team total, with several top individual finishers. Brandon Hilario was the consolation winner in boys singles and Morgan Parnell took first place in the girls singles action. Jonathon Byrd took third place for the boys, while Sean Rios and Brett Cervantez took second in boys doubles.
COAHOMA â€” Officials with the Big Spring Fire Department and Howard County Volunteer Fire Department are investigating a house fire that claimed the lives of two Coahoma residents during the early morning hours Sunday.
Petra Arguello, 60, and 9-year-old Jacob Arguello were pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bennie Green at the scene of the fire, which was reported at 110 S. Main St. in Coahoma, according to Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker.
Black cats crossing a path may be bad luck for some, but for Haley Rios it was a sign of good luck.
Blackie â€” known as Haley's cat now â€” wandered into the Rios' home in October of last year and never left.
â€śWe had to nurse him with a bottle because he was so small when he showed up and he had no fur on him,â€ť said Haley's mother, Stephanie Rios.
On Oct. 26, Blackie prevented a possible tragedy. Stephanie went into Haley's room as usual to wake her up for school, but it turned out it wasn't just any ordinary morning.

â€˘ ALONZO VASQUEZ, 30, of 2632 Langley, was arrested Sunday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
â€˘ RAMON VALBUENA, 36, of 618 Caylor, was arrested Sunday on charges of unlawful restraint and assault causing bodily injury â€“ family violence.

Elidia Rubio Herrera, 65, of Lakeway, Texas, formerly of Big Spring died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at The Summit in Lakeway. Vigil services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish (Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church). Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
Elidia was born on Sept. 2, 1946, in Marfa, Texas, to Magdalena and Felix Rubio Sr. She married Jesse Herrera July 4, 1964, in Big Spring and he preceded her in death Oct. 22, 2004.
Blair Nicole Schuelke, infant daughter of Clint and Brooke Schuelke of Ackerly, passed from this life to the arms of the heavenly Father on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in a Midland hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Scott, Youth Minister at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church of Abilene, officiating, and Corbin Young, regional assistant for the Brownwood district FCA, assisting.
Ronald I. Dallefeld, 72, of Big Spring died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in a Midland hospital. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham officiating.
He was born Jan. 31, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo., to Donald and Lois Fangel Dallefeld. He married Delma Henley June 2, 1961, in Big Spring, Texas.
