Losses drop Hawks from national softball tournament

The Lady Hawks of Howard College fell in consecutive shutout losses on Friday to end their season at the NJCAA tournament in St. George, Utah. The Hawks bats only accounted for a combined five hits in the two games,while giving up nine.

Iowa Western knocked Howard out of the double elimination tournament with a 4-0 shutout. Iowa only had five hits in the game, but accumulated 14 base runners in the game, due to walks, errors and hit-batsmen.

Despite the losses, Head Coach Kelly Raines was very pleased with Howard College's season.

Campbell birth announcement

Nate and Kandi Campbell of Big Spring, announce the birth of their daughter Madison Campbell.
Madison was born April 20, 2011 in Big Spring. She weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces and was 18 inches long.
Her maternal grandparents are John and Anita Cline of Big Spring; her paternal grandparents are Jim and Sammye Campbell of Big Spring.
Madision was welcomed home by her siblings, Bryson and Evan.

EDC assists business, entity

Big Spring Economic Development Corporation has entered into an agreement to help a local business with its expansion plans.

Terry Wegman, executive director of the BSEDC, said the board has agreed to help John Crane Solutions, a manufacturer of fiberglass sucker rods for the oil field industry.

“They are in expansion mode at this point and are looking to add 18,000 square feet,” Wegman said. “The project is estimated to be over $1 million and will increase production.”

Neugebauer speaks on debt; gives thanks to firefighters

U.S. Congressman Randy Neugebauer made a stop in Big Spring Wednesday during his tour through Texas.

Neugebauer dropped by the monthly Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce board meeting and was speaker at a Town Hall Meeting, which took place at the Hall for the Arts at Howard College.

“Randy makes every attempt to reach out to his constituency and is always there when we need him,” Dr. Cheryl Sparks, president of Howard College, said. “We are always pleased to have him.”

Pastor pleads guilty to solicitation charge

An Ackerly preacher recently pleaded guilty to two counts of online solicitation of a minor — a third-degree felony — in 118th District Court, part of a plea agreement with the district attorney's office.

George Ray McMorris Jr., 40, of 101 Ave. B in Ackerly, was indicted in November on three counts of online solicitation of a minor.

According to Assistant District Attorney Robin Orr, McMorris accepted a plea agreement, pleading guilty to two counts while the third count was dropped. “

Moses Flores Jr., of Fort Worth, formerly of Big Spring went to be with the Lord on May 12, 2011, at the age of 58 years. Moses was born in Big Spring on Aug. 13, 1952, to Moses and Evelyn Flores.
