Laura Louise (Beene) Odom, 46, passed away due to a sudden illness on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Abilene Regional Hospital. Funeral services were to be held Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 2 p.m. at FMC in Brownwood with Dr. Don Scroggs officiating. Burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Cemetery in Brownwood. Davis Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood is in charge of services.

Saundra Heffington Webb, 60, of Odessa, formerly of Big Spring died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Aaron Henry, Cornerstone Assembly of God in Atlanta, Texas, officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

Mrs. Joyce M. Bly Pennington, 80, of Hamburg, Ark., died Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Stonegate Villa Health & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2011, at the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Egypt Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Saturday at the church.

Joyner, pastor of Marathon Baptist Church, officiating.

Curtis Pendleton, 29, of Big Spring, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at New Life Ministries Church of God in Christ, with Elder Jerome McNalley, officiating.

Losses drop Hawks from national softball tournament

The Lady Hawks of Howard College fell in consecutive shutout losses on Friday to end their season at the NJCAA tournament in St. George, Utah. The Hawks bats only accounted for a combined five hits in the two games,while giving up nine.

Iowa Western knocked Howard out of the double elimination tournament with a 4-0 shutout. Iowa only had five hits in the game, but accumulated 14 base runners in the game, due to walks, errors and hit-batsmen.

Despite the losses, Head Coach Kelly Raines was very pleased with Howard College's season.

Campbell birth announcement

Nate and Kandi Campbell of Big Spring, announce the birth of their daughter Madison Campbell.
Madison was born April 20, 2011 in Big Spring. She weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces and was 18 inches long.
Her maternal grandparents are John and Anita Cline of Big Spring; her paternal grandparents are Jim and Sammye Campbell of Big Spring.
Madision was welcomed home by her siblings, Bryson and Evan.

EDC assists business, entity

Big Spring Economic Development Corporation has entered into an agreement to help a local business with its expansion plans.

Terry Wegman, executive director of the BSEDC, said the board has agreed to help John Crane Solutions, a manufacturer of fiberglass sucker rods for the oil field industry.

“They are in expansion mode at this point and are looking to add 18,000 square feet,” Wegman said. “The project is estimated to be over $1 million and will increase production.”
