Jose Angel â€śMatitaâ€ť Mata, 82, of Big Spring died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Vigil Services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Msgr. Bernard L. Gully officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Ervin Lester Bridge, 85, of Lomax died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. David Harp officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
Aimee Wallace Aragon, 41, of Elkhart, formerly of Big Spring died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, in Tyler, Texas. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Big Spring. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
As West Texans try desperately to conserve water in the face of the ongoing drought, officials with the Colorado River Municipal Water District say they have been forced to stop pumping water from Lake Spence, the second reservoir from its system to fall prey to the lack of rain.
Located in Robert Lee, Lake Spence is currently at 0.5 percent capacity, according to CRMWD officials. Spence is the second reservoir to reach critical levels for the water district, with Lake Thomas â€” currently at 2.21 percent of capacity â€” having been out of commission since December 2008.
Times may be tough, but with a little help itâ€™s possible to make it through.

Saturday morning, members of the Big Spring Fire Department set up post on Gregg Street in hopes of raising money for Jerryâ€™s Kids and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
â€śWe are trying to stamp out more than 40 new diseases and the good thing is this money stays in the area. It goes to the Midland office, which services the Big Spring area,â€ť said Chanley Delk, president of the Big Spring Professional Fire Fighters Association.
Shane Martinez and Randi Gerstenberger of Big Spring, announce the birth of their daughter Ava Jean Martinez.
Ava was born Aug. 19, 2011, at 11:08 p.m. She weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces and measured 18 inches long.
Her maternal grandparents are Nelda Williams and Deter and Kion Gerstenberger. Paternal grandparents are Augustine and April Martinez and Denise Creekmore.
She was welcomed home by her siblings, LaRae and Maddix Martinez.
Krystal and Coby Edmiston, of San Angelo announce the birth ofÂ Kaylee Anne Edmiston, born Aug. 3, 2011. Kaylee weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces, and was 19Â 3/4 inches long.Â

Pauline Lecroy, 89, of Big Spring, Texas, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Joey Bacon, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
