GILMER — Funeral services for Glen D. Bunn, 76, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2011, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Union Grove with the Rev. Monsignor Xavier Pappu and Father Joseph Ezharath officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer. A prayer rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, followed by visitation from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home. Mr. Bunn died June 27, 2011.

Steve Rogers, 59, of Big Spring died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Calvary Callender, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, officiating.

Two killed in separate accidents

At least two people were killed Wednesday afternoon in a pair of traffic accidents involving tractor trailers, as law enforcement officials investigate crashes on Interstate Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 350.

The first accident was reported near the intersection of U.S. Highway 350 and Piper Road shortly after noon. Lois Rhoton, 84, of Big Spring was pronounced dead at Scenic Mountain Medical Center by Justice of the Peace Bennie Green approximately an hour after the accident, according to law enforcement officials.

Highland Parade Monday

Patriotism isn't just for adults.

For more than 30 years, the Highland July 4 Parade has shown that you don't have to be a grownup to show your love for all things red, white and blue.

The annual parade will be held along Highland Drive Monday morning, said Melanie Laudermilk, one of the event's organizers.

The parade, featuring children decked out in all kinds of patriotic regalia, begins at 10 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Highland and Robb drives and will end at the intersection of Highland and Goliad.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• MARGARITA OLIVAREZ RAMIREZ, 28, of 2200 S. Nolan, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for failure to maintain financial responsibility.
• KIMBERLY NICOLE GUTIERREZ, 21, of 1900 Martin Luther King Blvd. Apt. 614, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for speeding.
• DEBRA LYNN KNOTT, 49, of 106 E. 22nd St., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• PRISCILLA ANN LIVESAY, 24, of Lubbock, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Dorothy Jean Pearce, 81, of Garden City died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, in a Big Spring hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Claude McKiddy officiating. Interment will follow at Garden City Cemetery.

City council tightens water use restrictions

Beginning Friday, municipal water customers will be forced to cut back their outdoor water use yet again to make way for an overall 20 percent decrease in deliveries by the Colorado River Municipal Water District.

The Big Spring City Council approved the revision to its current Drought Contingency Plan — which is currently in Stage 3 — by a unanimous vote to decrease the number of days city water customers can water lawns and utilize water for outdoor activities and usages from three days each week to two days.

BSISD committee, board meet Thursday

Big Spring Independent School District officials hope to put the final touches on plans for new single-member district boundaries Thursday.

BSISD's Redistricting Advisory Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday to hammer out final recommendations for the new boundaries, then will present those findings to the board of trustees when that body meets in special session at 5:15 p.m.

Both meetings will be held in the Big Spring High School board room. The public is invited to provide input at both meetings.
