February 21, 2011

The agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the Big Spring City Council is rather brief, with final approval of a resolution supporting the Colorado River Municipal Water District's ongoing efforts to educate the public on the need for water conservation.

Talks between CRMWD and its member cities — including Big Spring — have been ongoing for some time now, centering around water conservation heading into the coming summer, when water usage in the Crossroads area is expected to be at its highest point.

Playoff warm-up win over Paducah helps Steers shake off rust

February 19, 2011

POST — The Big Spring Steers have had a little more than a week of preparation for their bi-district playoff game against Bowie Tuesday.

But the way they ended the regular season — a 69-54 loss at Abilene Wylie — is still fresh in their minds. So head coach Cliff Thompson and the Steers didn’t mind expressing how good a 74-58 win over Paducah felt, even if it was a playoff warm-up game.

“We needed that after that Wylie game,” he said. “We didn’t play well. Paducah is a good team. Just Monday, they beat Seminole, who won their
3A district. We played well and that was good to see.”

Paducah’s quick start ousts Grady girls

February 19, 2011

POST — Youth and inexperience caught up with the Grady Lady Wildcats when they met No.14 Paducah in the girls’ Class A, Division II area championship Friday.

“We shot ourselves in the foot a lot,” Grady head coach Ken Hefner said.”But it’s not a lack of effort. The kids played hard all year long. They did some great things. It’s just disappointing to finish on a night like this.”

Paducah handed a 58-35 loss to the Lady Cats, whose playoff run ended after a win over Ropes in the bi-district round Tuesday.
