The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ ANTHONY JOSEPH AZUL, 27, of 1516 Sycamore, was arrested Wednesday on warrants for driving without safety belt secured, failure to appear (three counts), operating a motor vehicle with the wrong registration and no driver's license â€“ when unlicensed.
â€˘ CHELSEA LEE HOLMES, 28, of 2611 Fairchild, was arrested Wednesday on charges of theft â€“ shoplifting, no safety belt â€“ child less than 17 years of age (three counts) and driving while license invalid.

Kenneth W. Heflin, 84, of Big Spring died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home. Memorial services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at Forsan Baptist Church with Bro. Michael Robinson and Bro. Derrick Looney officiating.
John "Tippy" Anderson Jr., 84, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Dennis F. Sullivan, 63, of Big Spring died Saturday, July 30, 2011, at his residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Angelita G. Alvarez, 66, of Big Spring died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
With this summer's unusually hot conditions, the coaching staff at Big Spring have instituted some changes when it comes to football practices. Two-a-days still started Aug. 1, as they did across the state and most of the nation, but a concentrated effort is being made to keep the players hydrated and ensure their safety.
â€śWe have scheduled water breaks throughout our practices,â€ť Head Coach Phillip Ritchey said. â€śIn addition, the boys are encouraged to go get water any time they need it. We don't want them wasting time asking. We want them to just go get it.â€ť
For the second time since the 2008 explosion that rocked the Big Spring Refinery, a Howard County jury found owner Alon USA guilty of negligence and awarded local residents damages but failed to find gross negligence.
COAHOMA — For the third time in the past six years, Coahoma Independent School District is in the market for a superintendent.
Trustees will begin the process of replacing Dr. Randy Brown when they hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the administration building board room.
Brown, CISD's superintendent for the past three years, is resigning his position effective Aug. 22 to accept a similar post at Snyder ISD.
His departure was greeted by a mixture of appreciation and sadness.

â€˘ BRITTNEY JO HILGER, 17, of 3618 Hamilton, was arrested Monday on a charge of possession of marijuana â€” less than or equal to two ounces in a drug free zone.
â€˘ JOEY EUGENE MATA, 23, of 1103 W. Fifth, was arrested Monday on charges of theft â€” less than $50 shoplifting, violation protective order communicates ( two counts).
