Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Deacon Johnny Arguello, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Park.

Linda Rau, 70, of La Porte, formerly of Big Spring went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 11, 2011. Viewing will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Central Assembly of God on Monday, May 16, 2011. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service as we celebrate her life Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at 10 a.m. The service will be held at Central Assembly of God, 4405 Crenshaw Rd., Pasadena. ODESSA â€” Forsan's Lady Buffs won't be returning to Austin for a shot at a third straight state softball championship but it won't be from a lack of effort.
After falling to Alpine 14-1 Friday, the Lady Buffs rallied to tie the best-of-three quarterfinal series with a 7-5 win.
â€śI thought they showed a lot of character and a lot of fortitude,â€ť Coach Shanna Taylor said of her young Forsan team. â€śWe hit three home runs in that game and we put them (Alpine) on the run.â€ť
Crossroads area athletes fared well in University Interscholastic League state competition over the weekend.
Big Spring High Schoolâ€™s Bridgette Tuitt took home gold in the Class 3A girls long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 6 3/4 inches. Teammate Desiree Anderson placed second in the event for a silver medal. She soared 18-3 1/2. Tuitt also finished fourth in the 200 meters (24.84) and eighth in the triple jump (35-03). Anderson was ninth in the 100 meters (12.38).
Politicians in Big Spring will have to accomplish their goals within two terms on the city council, as voters approved an amendment to the municipal charter to place term limits on local elected officials.
The proposition â€” which was brought to the voters via a petition championed by the local Concerned Citizens Council â€” got the nod from local voters Saturday with 765 ballots (64.34 percent) in favor of the measure and 424 ballots (35.66 percent) against it.
