LUBBOCK â€” All track season, Brigette Tuitt and Desiree Anderson have been counted on to provide leadership to the Big Spring High School girlsâ€™ track team.
Tuesday, the duo led BSHS to the team title at the Region I-3A track meet in Lubbock.
Tuitt collected four gold medals and a silver, while Anderson netted three gold medals and a silver to lead the Lady Steers, who scored 98 points to easily out-point runner-up Abilene Wylie.
If contractors working on the new Big Spring Aquatics Center at Comanche Trail Park seem hurried, it's no wonder, as city officials currently speculate the project will most likely miss its May 28 completion date.
Assistant City Manager Todd Darden said a problem with materials has the project's contractor — excluding work on the pool itself — showing concern his crew may not be able to meet the deadline.
Broadway isn't something you have to travel far to see, at least not this month.
For three nights, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Hall Center for the Arts Studio Theatre will be the stage for “Broadway Forte” and “Dark of the Moon.”
Coahoma Elementary School is offering parents the opportunity to pre-register children for kindergarten. Kindergarten registration for 2011-2012 kindergarten classes will be held Monday, May 9 through Friday, May 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
To be eligible for this program, a child must be five years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2011. The district provides full-day kindergarten.

â€˘ ROBERT RAY COBLE, 22, of 2710 S. Anderson Rd., was arrested Monday on a charge of driving while license invalid/suspended with a previous conviction.
â€˘ KRISTI LOREE ELLIOT, 29, of 603 E. 12th St., was arrested Monday on warrants for driving while license invalid, no inspection certificate and a warrant from another agency.
â€˘ ASSAULT was reported in the 1200 block of Wood.

In the 1300 block of Elm Street.
Raphael W. Buchanan, 80, of Big Spring died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Mt. Olive Memorial Park Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the funeral home.
LUBBOCK â€” It doesnâ€™t pay to doubt Mike Menefield.
The Big Spring High School track star earned a return trip to the Texas high school track meet in dramatic and convincing fashion, setting the triple jump record at the Region I-3A Track Meet in Lubbock Monday.
Menefield scratched on his first two attempts Monday, but on his third and final try, he uncorked a leap of 49 feet, 6.5 inches to both win the event and set the meet record at the same time.
His winning jump was more than three feet better than that posted by runner-up Dillon Wilkins of Mineral Wells.
R.W. Buchanan, 80, of Big Spring died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at his residence. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
NASAâ€™s most experienced astronaut is visiting Big Spring Independent School District and the public is invited.
Dr. Story Musgrave, the only astronaut to serve on all of the shuttles, will visit with students and give a public presentation about his time on missions in outer space. The public presentation will be at 7 p.m. May 17 in the Big Spring High School auditorium. A question and answer session will follow.
