Itâs something the eight seniors on this team can relate to.
âIâve talked to a lot of coaches who have been in my position and I just try to heed their advice and make it fun for the guys,â BSHS boysâ basketball head coach Cliff Thompson said. âFor a lot of them, I just make sure theyâre enjoying it because itâs the last time theyâll get to do this. For me, itâs a learning process, for them itâs the only chance they get.â
GAIL â The No. 11 Grady Wildcats didnât accomplish what they wanted to during the regular season â win the District 8A Division II crown.
However, before Mondayâs Class A Division II bi-district playoff game against New Home, Grady head coach Thomas Clay reminded his players they donât need that for a return trip to state.
The Big Spring baseball team took care of business Monday night, beating Monahans 8-2 to open the 2011 season.
Max Pappajohn was on the mound for the win.
Head Coach Bert Otto was impressed with his teamâs performance. He said this is about where the Steers were at last year, but he will learn what type of team he has quickly.
The Steers immediately dive in to their first tournament of the year at Lubbock Cooper High School. The tourney starts with Cooper at 10 a.m. and Hereford at 3 p.m. Otto said the Steers should also have Monahans again and Andrews.
ODESSA â Thursdayâs game against Frank Phillips College for the Howard College womenâs basketball team is now do or die.
The Hawk women fell to Odessa College Monday in WJCAC action, 66-45. The loss makes the regular season finale the biggest game of the year. Howard needs to beat Frank Phillips at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum and a New Mexico Junior College loss at South Plains in order to clinch a berth in the Region V Tournament. Frank Phillips has already been eliminated.

Steven Paul Martinez, 59, of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Trinity Memorial Park with Monsignor Bernard Gully officiating.
