Big Spring thinclads expect ‘tough fight’ for District 4-3A track crown

Big Spring High School head track coach Nick Roberson doesn’t mind telling anyone he thinks his team has the talent to compete with anyone. The team’s overall talent level and depth gives it an opportunity to compete each and every time it takes to the track.
That is good news for area track and field fans - especially those who plan to turn out to watch the Big Spring boys’ and girls’ track teams take aim at the District 4-3A Track and Field Championships. The meet is scheduled to get under way on Monday morning at Blankenship Field.

Watson Weldon Miles

Graveside services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring, Texas, 6900 S. Highway 87, for Weldon Miles Watson, who was born July 28, 1926, in Ira, Texas, to Ava and Bill Watson, who preceded him in death. Weldon attended school in Ira, Texas, while working with his family on their farm. It was in Ira that he met and married Eutha Fay Bryce on Jan. 18, 1945. Fay passed away Aug. 16, 2012, after 67 years of marriage.

John Jacob (Jack) Abendschan V

John Jacob Abendschan, 94, died March 31, 2014, at 5:07 at Deseret Health and Rehab, Colby, Kan.
Jack was born Aug. 2, 1919, in Denver, Colo. He enlisted with the with the U.S. Coast Guard Feb. 22, 1941, was on active duty during WWII and was honorably discharged Jan. 4, 1946. He attended Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo., and received a BSN in petroleum engineering.

Juan “Johnny” Haro

Juan “Johnny” Haro, 68, of Big Spring died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Sam Segundo, pastor of Family Faith Center, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

Imogene Thomas Ingram Hambrick

April 5, 2014

Imogene Thomas Ingram Hambrick was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Big Spring, Texas, to Fred Thomas and Lois Creighton Thomas and passed peacefully after many years of declining health on Wednesday, April 2, 2014.
Imogene married J.C. Ingram Sept. 9, 1949, in Big Spring, Texas, and is survived by their two children, Brenda Ingram Hambrick and husband Randy of Lubbock, and Brad Ingram and wife Carla of Stanton. She married Bill Hambrick in 1979 and he preceded her in death in 2005.

City workers repair water line break

April 4, 2014

City of Big Spring crews have repaired a water main break that resulted in restricted water use for residents Thursday.

This break, located at the intersection of Noland and 10th streets, impacted a number of city residences and businesses. City officials instituted a temporary ban is to ensure there was sufficient water for basic living necessities.

Volunteers look to untrash Big Spring

One key to a prettier Big Spring is quite literally in the bag.

More than 100 area residents, armed with trash bags and a desire to beautify this city, will take to the streets Saturday as part of the Texas Trash Off and Clean It Up Big Spring effort.
