Water line breaks; non-essential use banned

A large water main at 10th & Nolan broke today, affecting water service to large portions of the city.

"We have staff on site and they will remain on site until service is restored," a city press release stated. "You may experience some inconveniences such as no water, low water pressure, dirty water or additional air in the water, etc."

More suspects sought in sting

Two more people have been arrested in connection with a drug sweep conducted by area law enforcement officers earlier this week.

Mark Ryerson, 26, and Thomas White, 22, were arrested on drug charges Wednesday, according to information released by the Big Spring Police Department. Ryerson was charged with possession of a controlled substance, while White was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a dangerous drug and burglary of a habitation.

Rogers’ campaign brings Impeach Obama platform to Big Spring

Campaign workers for Kesha Rogers, a Larouche Democrat running for the U.S. Senate, were in Big Spring Wednesday afternoon with a message — impeach President Barak Obama.

It’s the platform Rogers has based her campaign on and quickly caught the interest of some area residents.

Mahlaya Da’Nae Woodruff

Mahlaya Da’Nae Woodruff, 5, of Coahoma died Sunday March 30, 2014, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with burial at Trinity Memorial Park.

She was born Jan. 7, 2009, in Big Spring to Krystal and Curtis Woodruff. She was a pre-K student at Coahoma Elementary.

SPRINGTOWN — Evelyn Sample Kendrick of Springtown, formally of Big Spring, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

Funeral service: 1 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2013, at Midway Baptist Church in Springtown. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Monday at the Peace Chapel, Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring. Brother Dwayne Wheat, former pastor of Berea Baptist Church in Big Spring will officiate.

Doyle R. White, 75, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Mount Olive Memorial Park, with Pastor Kevin Knudson of Life Church officiating.

Callie Jo Nickle

Callie Jo Nickle, 58, of Big Spring, passed away March 11, 2014. She was born Jan. 8, 1956 in Lamesa, Texas to the late Wanda Le Henderson and Gerald Nickle

Callie attended Howard College in Big Spring and graduated May 9, 1979, as an LVN. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Among her many interests she enjoyed camping, arts and crafts and cooking.
Survivors include her daughters, Anna Nickle and Micah Nickle of Big Spring; a brother, Charlie Nickle of Austin, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Lydia Inez Trejo, infant daughter of Kelsi Hicks and Miguel Trejo, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Odessa Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Mount Olive Memorial Park with Courtney Ballard officiating.

She is survived by her parents; her grandparents, Robin Hicks, Johnny Hicks, Ruthie and Bob Smith, Ester and Efrain Jurado, Cruzita Morales and Juan Ibarra and Maria and Augustine Jurado.

Record-setting 4x400-meter relay squad leads BSHS into District 4-3A track meet

When senior Dyrshae Vanderbilt stepped across the finish line at the Honeybee Relays recently, she knew she and her teammates had just ran a really good time in the 4x400-meter relay. Just how good, she would learn later when BSHS head track coach Nick Roberson informed them they had broken the school’s all-time record. The team ran a time of 3 minutes and 58.46 seconds and shattered the previous school-best by almost a full second.
