Hart and Grove

Aricka Hart and Kevin Grove, both of Howard County, have announced their engagement and pending wedding.
Aricka's parents are John Hart and Dana Reid of Big Spring. Paternal grandparents are Clifford and Jo Etta Hart of Big Spring. Maternal grandparents are Travis and Janie Reid.
Aricka graduated from Coahoma High School in 2009 and from Howard College in 2011 with an associate of science degree.

Kenneth Cade Born

Kenneth Cade Born, a boy, was born at 7:34 p.m. Jan. 5, 2013. He weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was 18 inches long.
He is the son of Brice and Ashley Born of Coahoma. His grandparents are Bobby and Jaymie Long and Allan and Terri Born, all of Big Spring.

Haneys 60th anniversary

J.O. Haney Jr. and Patrica Snider Haney, 1950 and 1953 graduates of Big Spring High School, celebrated 60 years of mostly blissful marriage, in Big Spring at the Settles Hotel on Jan. 17, 18 and 19, 2013. Little did J.O. realize when he started to Richland Grade School in the Luther Community north of Big Spring in August of 1941, that his first grade teacher, Mrs. Alden (Zan) Ryan, would have a neat influence on him 72 years later.

Mr. and Mrs. Blake Edward Lance

Angela Nichole Pace and Blake Edward Lance, both of Coahoma, exchanged wedding vows on Dec. 15, 2012, in ceremonies conducted by the Rev. Floyd Green Jr.
Angela is the daughter of Donna and David Place of Big Spring. Blake is the son of Paul Lance of Coahoma and Vernette and Lonnie Hill of Big Spring.
Angela wore a wedding gown made by Vernette Hill which matched the theme of pink and camouflage.
Ring bearers were Dylan Lance and Ace Pace. Flower girls were Danielle Pace and Blakely Rodgers.

Dylan Violet Kilgore

Dylan Violet Kilgore, a girl, was born at 9:53 a.m. Dec. 5, 2012, weighing 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 inches in length.
She is the daughter of Ben and Janet Kilgore of Big Spring. Maternal grandparents are Helen and Ronnie Richardson and the late Omer Sherman. Paternal grandparent is Dr. J. Gale and Sue Kilgore.

Newton and Williams

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Newton of Big Spring are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Samantha Newton to Tyler Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Williams of Richmond, Texas.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of the late Buster and Polly Sisson, and Leola and the late Lindell Newton, all of Big Spring. Samantha is a 2007 graduate of Angelo State University and is currently working towards her masters degree in nutrition at Texas State University.

Airman Matthew Thomas Baggett

Airman Matthew Thomas Baggett graduated from U.S. Air Force Basic Training School at Lackland AFB, Texas, on Sept. 7, 2012.
Baggett, the son of Mary and Michael Baggett of Coahoma, graduated from Coahoma High School in 2009 and worked as a fitness trainer at Dora Roberts Rehabilitation Center before enlisting into the Air Force in May.
Upon graduation from basic training, he received orders to attend Supply Chain Management technical school at Barksdale AFB, La.

Bailee Maria Rizo

Bailee Maria Rizo, a girl, was born Nov. 26, 2012, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, weighing 7 pounds, 6.6 ounces. She was 19.5 inches long.
She is the daughter of Salvador and Crystal Rizo of Midland.
She is the granddaughter of James and Angie Worley and Juan Rizo and the late Maria Rizo, all of Big Spring.
She was welcomed into the world by brother Kingston Maddox Rizo.

Graveside ceremony honors former Confederate soldier

December 4, 2012

Private Calvin McKee lay in an unmarked grave for 101 years until 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, when the Confederate Monument Dedication at Mt. Olive Cemetery brought 85 people — including 35 direct decendants — together to honor him.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans and Order of the Confederate Rose hosted the event.
