Rotary Club

Recently the Big Spring Rotary sponsored area youth at the summer RYLA Camp. This camp was put on by local Rotarians with a goal of helping today’s youth to become leaders and good citizens in our communities. This past Tuesday during the weekly meeting leaders and students made a presentation to the Big Spring Rotary of the summer fun and events during the weeklong camp.  Pictured are local leaders and students who participated in the week long summer camp. Jensen birth

Arius James Jensen, son of Rian and Jodi Jensen of Colorado City, was born June 8, 2011, at 5:47 p.m.
He was 8 pounds 12 ounces and measured 21 inches.
His maternal grandparents are Dearl and Jo Messick of Loraine. His paternal grandparents are Marlene and Archie Riffe of Big Spring and Brian and Debbie Jensen of Big Spring.
Arius was welcomed home by his brother Ryan Joe Jensen.

Parras birth

August 5, 2011

Julie Wheeler and Patrick Parras both of Big Spring, announce the birth of their son, Dominique Allen Hernandez Parras.
Dominique was born July 29, 2011, at 2:27 p.m. He weighed seven pounds eight ounces and measured 19 Âľ inches long.
His maternal grandparents are Marvie and Evelyn Wheeler of Big Spring and Patrick Parras and Alison Edinger of N.C. and Janice Rivera of Big Spring.

50th Wedding Anniversary

August 5, 2011

Richard (Dick) and Sally Grove celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 4 with a small gathering of family and friends at the Airbase in Wichita, Kansas.
The cocky young airman met and fell for the pretty young dance instructor while playing in the band and the two were soon married. The next 22 years were a blur of world traveling from Europe to the Middle East before the couple finally came to roost in Big Spring in 1981.

Flores birth

August 5, 2011

Nathaniel Hector Castaneda Flores, son of Emily Luz Flores and Hector Ruben Castaneda, both of Big Spring, was born July 29, 2011.
He arrived at 5:35 p.m. weighing six pounds 12.6 ounces and measured 18 ½ inches.
His maternal grandfather is Oscar Flores and great-grandmother is Gregoria Flores, both of Big Spring. His paternal grandmother is Frances Enriquez of Big Spring.
He was welcomed home by his sibling, Jasiah.

Davis-Haney wedding

Erin Michelle Davis and Paul Robert Haney exchanged marriage vows in a double ring ceremony on the beach at the Iberostar Maya in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, on Monday, June 6, 2011, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
Erin is the daughter of Jay and Mona Davis of De Soto. She is the granddaughter of the late Harry and Mary Jean Nugent of Lake Charles, La, and the late John Davis of Las Vegas, Nev., and Vera Thomas of Gold Beach, Ore.

Vision International graduates

July 29, 2011

Templo Belen celebrated the graduation of seven pupils from Vision Int'l University on Sunday, July 24.
Vision International University has their main campus in California and originated back in 1977. There is also a campus located in Dallas and now has a Resource Center in Big Spring.
For the past three years, Templo Belen has been hosting classes for Vision International University and the School of Tyrannus Int'l Discipleship Program, founded by Dr. Bemis —founder of of For God's Glory Ministries.

Military News

July 29, 2011

Major Darryl G. Hammonds, son of Frank and Joann Brooks of Big Spring, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in February and received the award in April.
Hammonds has been a Big Spring resident since the age of 9 and has been stationed at Quantico, Virg. for the past year and a half. He entered into the United States Marine Corp Feb. 13, 1990 and has served four combat tours in Kuwait, Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan, which earned him the Bronze Star.
