Coahoma High School head coach Trey Gardner and Forsan head coach Jason Phillips had a lot in common on Friday night as they watched their two teams square off in season-opening “Howard Bowl.” Both were less than pleased with the way their team’s played. Mistakes. Turnovers. Penalties. Missed opportunities. In the end, however, Gardner had a little less to be unhappy about.

MONAHANS – The Big Spring High School defense had every chance in the world to fold up like a cheap suit on Friday night in front of a large crowd at Estes Memorial Stadium. Sure. At times, they were pushed around more than a lawnmower in Florida as they gave up 364 yards. Sure. They got a little help from the officiating crew that overturned a fourth-quarter touchdown that would have given the Loboes a lead with just ovet 2 minutes to play.
Kyler Franks and Joseph Melendez both rushed for a pair of touchdowns and helped the Bulldogs reel off a convincing 38-7 rout of the McCamey Badgers on Friday in front of a large crowd at Bulldog Stadium.
Jesse Cervantes rushed for three touchdowns on Friday night and helped the Forsan Buffaloes scratch their way into the win column with a dominating 57-0 rout of the Plains Cowboys.

Tannehill signs with UMHB

The question was never “if” Tobyn Tannehill would play college football. The youngest son of Big Spring’s Tim and Cheryl Tannehill always knew he was going to sign to play at the next level. Thus, the question was “where” the Steers’ record-setting quarterback would sign.

The hard-throwing left-hander limited Levelland to just three hits while leading the Steers to a 2-0 victory in front of a large crowd at Steer Park.

Jaci Aguilar and Mercedes Ruiz both came up with clutch hits on Friday afternoon and helped the Big Spring High School Steers roll to a 6-1 victory over Levelland in front of a large crowd at Lady Steer Field.
With the win, Big Spring improved to 15-4 for the season and, more importantly, kept their district title hopes alive heading into Tuesday’s rematch with district-leading Snyder.

BSHS golfers win district title

Paint the District 2-4A boys’ golf trophy black and gold.

Paced by strong performances by Sam Harris and Nolan Otto, the Big Spring High School boys’ team won the district team competition in easy fashion after final-round competition in Big Spring.

The Steers won the title in convincing fashion, shooting a team total 1002 over the three rounds to best second-place Snyder by 27 strokes. Sweetwater was third with a team score of 1061.

Wildcats advance to finals with win over Calvert

The Grady Wildcats are are headed to the championship game at the Class A boys’ state basketball tournament in San Antonio.
Thanks to a late basket by senior Beau Lucas.
The Grady standout pushed in a layup with 3.8 seconds left on Thursday morning and helped Grady rally for a 76-75 overtime victory over the Calvert Trojans in front of a large crowd in the Alamodome.
With the win, Grady will advance to face Texline in the state championship game on Saturday. Texline edged out Graford in their first round game, 76-48.

BSHS track meet to be held today

High school track and field action will take center stage this afternoon as the 2015 Big Spring Invitational Track and Field Meet will be held at Blankenship Field.
In all, more than 10 teams from throughout the area will be competing in the event. The Big Spring boys’ and girls’ teams will both be looking to repeat as meet champions.
Field events will begin at 1 p.m. The running events will start at 5:30 p.m
