Coahoma High School head coach Trey Gardner and Forsan head coach Jason Phillips had a lot in common on Friday night as they watched their two teams square off in season-opening “Howard Bowl.” Both were less than pleased with the way their team’s played. Mistakes. Turnovers. Penalties. Missed opportunities. In the end, however, Gardner had a little less to be unhappy about.

MONAHANS – The Big Spring High School defense had every chance in the world to fold up like a cheap suit on Friday night in front of a large crowd at Estes Memorial Stadium. Sure. At times, they were pushed around more than a lawnmower in Florida as they gave up 364 yards. Sure. They got a little help from the officiating crew that overturned a fourth-quarter touchdown that would have given the Loboes a lead with just ovet 2 minutes to play.
Kyler Franks and Joseph Melendez both rushed for a pair of touchdowns and helped the Bulldogs reel off a convincing 38-7 rout of the McCamey Badgers on Friday in front of a large crowd at Bulldog Stadium.
Jesse Cervantes rushed for three touchdowns on Friday night and helped the Forsan Buffaloes scratch their way into the win column with a dominating 57-0 rout of the Plains Cowboys.

Big Spring lands 4 on TSWA All-State squad

The Big Spring High School Steers placed four players on the 63rd Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A All-State Football Team, which was released this morning. Among the players named to the squad were Shaiem Menefield, Devin Roberson, Tate Kennedy and Tobyn Tannehill.

After that, head coach Gary Huckabee said his team isn’t really sure about much else. The who, what and when of their bi-district round matchup will all be decided Friday when Morton and Springlake-Earth meet in a district playoff to determine the No. 3 seed in the District 5-A standings.

PECOS – Head coach Mike Warren knew the Big Spring Lady Steers needed to find a way to get the Fabens Lady Wildcats to abandon their zone defense early on Tuesday evening as he sat in the Eagles’ Nest at Pecos High School. He just needed something to happen that would force Fabens to spread out their defense a little so his team could use its size and athletic ability in the post.
Julianna Rodriguez was the answer.

For the last four seasons, Kelsie Guinn has been the face of the Big Spring High School Lady Steers’ golf program. On Monday afternoon, she became the face of another.
Guinn became the latest Big Spring senior to sign to play collegiately next fall on Monday afternoon when she inked a deal to play golf next season at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. Guinn signed the scholarship in front of a large gathering of her family, friends and classmates in the BSHS foyer.
