Coahoma High School head coach Trey Gardner and Forsan head coach Jason Phillips had a lot in common on Friday night as they watched their two teams square off in season-opening “Howard Bowl.” Both were less than pleased with the way their team’s played. Mistakes. Turnovers. Penalties. Missed opportunities. In the end, however, Gardner had a little less to be unhappy about.

MONAHANS – The Big Spring High School defense had every chance in the world to fold up like a cheap suit on Friday night in front of a large crowd at Estes Memorial Stadium. Sure. At times, they were pushed around more than a lawnmower in Florida as they gave up 364 yards. Sure. They got a little help from the officiating crew that overturned a fourth-quarter touchdown that would have given the Loboes a lead with just ovet 2 minutes to play.
Kyler Franks and Joseph Melendez both rushed for a pair of touchdowns and helped the Bulldogs reel off a convincing 38-7 rout of the McCamey Badgers on Friday in front of a large crowd at Bulldog Stadium.
Jesse Cervantes rushed for three touchdowns on Friday night and helped the Forsan Buffaloes scratch their way into the win column with a dominating 57-0 rout of the Plains Cowboys.

SAN ANGELO – The Big Spring High School Steers didn’t have any problem putting runners on base on Thursday afternoon at San Angelo Central’s Bobcat Stadium in the opening game of their best-of-three bi-district playoff series with the Fort Stockton High School Panthers. They had 12 runners reach base in the game.
While getting on base may not have been a problem, getting those baserunners home was.

Lady Hawks look to get hot as Region V tourney starts

Howard College Lady Hawks’ head coach Kelly Raines is happy her team posted a 43-11 record during the 2014 regular season. She’s even happier they went 24-4 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play and finished second in the overall conference race. Neither of those two things are important now. The only thing, she said, that matters is playing well at tournament time.

Roberson finishes in top 20 at state

Big Spring High School standout Devin Roberson fired a final round of 88 on Tuesday and finished in a three-way tie for 16th place at the 2014 Class 3A state golf tournament, which was held at the Hyatt Resort Lost Pines’ course.
