In a game that lacked scoring, it's fitting the biggest play of the night happened on the defensive end.
Ropes' fourth quarter push was stalled after Grady's Sarah Clay blocked Samantha Medrano's 3-pointer, which could have given the Lady Eagles a 31-30 lead with a little under a minute left in the game.
Instead Grady held on for the 31-28 win in Class A Division II bi-district playoff action and a date with No. 14 Paducah in the area round.
Clay, who also had a team-high eight points, came up big at the right time for the Lady Cats.
MIDLAND â The emotion was clear on the Howard College bench.
They didnât want to possibly meet No. 5 Midland College again in the regional tournament knowing they went 0-2 against the Chaps during the regular season.
So even though the Hawks were down 18 at one point and it looked like the conference leaders were going to prevail again, Carlos Emory came through.
Emory hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in the game to cap off a Howard comeback, leading the Hawks to a 76-74 win over the Chaps Monday in Midland. The Hawks were down by 10 with a little more than two minutes left.
The Big Spring boysâ golf team is on the right path early this spring season.
The Steers are reveling in their first-place finish at the Big Spring Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Big Spring Country Club. The Steers shot a 622 as a team, with Blake Brormanâs 146 being the lowest score on the team.
Itâs the first tournament win for Big Spring golf â boys or girls â since 2004.
âItâs a good confidence builder, finally getting a team win under our belt,â Brorman said. âItâs a big deal and I think itâs going to play later on down the road knowing we can actually win one.â
ABILENE â The first quarter of Fridayâs game between Big Spring and Abilene Wylie was a lot like the final minutes of the first game between these two squads.
Heartbreaking for the Steers, uplifting for the Bulldogs.
With a chance to win the District 5-3A crown at stake, Big Spring fell to Wylie 69-54 on the road and for the second time this season.
In the first Big Spring-Wylie meeting on Jan. 28, the Bulldogsâ Lance Lindley hit a huge 3-pointer with 28 seconds left to lift his team past the Steers.
Coahoma boys
DENVER CITY â The Coahoma Bulldogs fell to Denver City Friday night on the road, 79-48.
The loss puts the Bulldogs at 3-10 in District 3-2A, while Denver City continues to rise.
Coahomaâs Tanner Ruiz had 16 points. Coahoma has one more chance to end the season on a good note with Post visiting Coahoma at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Big Spring Steers have been openly talking about a District 5-3A crown since day one.
Tonight is their chance to make sure they get a shot at it.
The Steers face Abilene Wylie in the second matchup of the season at 7:30 p.m. in Abilene with a chance to be district champions on the line.
âIâve mentioned it several times to them,â BSHS head coach Cliff Thompson said. âThey understand. I told them in the locker room after that first game our goal is to win the district championship. I just try to make sure they understand that we canât play uptight.â
Everything about the Howard College-New Mexico Military Institute game Thursday pointed toward an emphatic win for the Hawks.
Howard was on a four-game win streak, NMMI is at the bottom of the Region-5 West standings and this was the team the Hawks beat in Roswell, N.M., with four players in the final minutes of the game, due to suspensions and foul trouble.
While the Hawks triumphed for a 64-48 win Thursday, the Broncos gave Howard some trouble early on, enough for head coach Mark Adams to take notice.
Coahoma boys
COAHOMA â Colorado City was too much for the Coahoma Bulldogs, who fell to 3-9 in District 3-2A with Tuesdayâs loss.
Coahoma didnât have a scorer in double figure, but Ryan Reid led with eight points. Colorado City moved to 12-0 in district play.
SNYDER â The Big Spring Lady Steers are entering the offseason a little earlier than they wanted.
In a win-and-in scenario, Snyder clinched third place and a playoff berth with a 44-32 win over Big Spring Tuesday night in the season finale.
The Lady Steersâ woes in the first half continued, which was a big reason for the loss. Big Spring scored seven points in the first half.
But despite that, Big Spring made Snyder sweat a little bit, getting within 10 a few times in the second half after the slow start.
