Coahoma High School head coach Trey Gardner and Forsan head coach Jason Phillips had a lot in common on Friday night as they watched their two teams square off in season-opening “Howard Bowl.” Both were less than pleased with the way their team’s played. Mistakes. Turnovers. Penalties. Missed opportunities. In the end, however, Gardner had a little less to be unhappy about.
Steers win season opener in dramatic fashion with a 41-yard "Hail Mary" pass in the end zone as time expires.
MONAHANS – The Big Spring High School defense had every chance in the world to fold up like a cheap suit on Friday night in front of a large crowd at Estes Memorial Stadium. Sure. At times, they were pushed around more than a lawnmower in Florida as they gave up 364 yards. Sure. They got a little help from the officiating crew that overturned a fourth-quarter touchdown that would have given the Loboes a lead with just ovet 2 minutes to play.
Kyler Franks and Joseph Melendez both rushed for a pair of touchdowns and helped the Bulldogs reel off a convincing 38-7 rout of the McCamey Badgers on Friday in front of a large crowd at Bulldog Stadium.
Jesse Cervantes rushed for three touchdowns on Friday night and helped the Forsan Buffaloes scratch their way into the win column with a dominating 57-0 rout of the Plains Cowboys.

Buffaloes rout Post, 11-1

March 14, 2012

FORSAN — It was all too much for the Post Antelopes.

The combination of several hot Forsan bats and a no-hitter pitched by Foster Burnett turned out to be too much for Post to overcome as the Buffaloes took an 11-1 run-rule victory in District 3-2A action Tuesday afternoon.

The Buffs made life difficult for Post from the very start, grabbing the lead in the first inning.

Patrick Robles was the first Buffalo to reach base after smacking a double in his first at-bat. Burchett drew a walk, and was driven in by Blaise Coffman in the bottom of the first.

Lady Buffs trample Lady Antelopes

March 13, 2012

FORSAN — The Forsan Lady Buffaloes improved their district record to 2-1 as they handily defeated the Post Lady Antelopes, 16-3, Monday.

After Post jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, the Lady Buffs charged back, led by a tour de force of hitting by the entire lineup. Ali Knight, who also pitched for the entirety of the game; began the onslaught by belting a double, and following suit was Kayla Tilley, who drove in Knight to score the first run for Forsan. Jahnia Willard and Shelby Roemer also drove in runs, making the score 4-3 at the end of the first inning.

HC softball takes 1 of 2 vs. Clarendon

March 12, 2012

The Howard College softball team showed some rust from a long layoff in the first game of its doubleheader with Clarendon College Sunday, but rebounded in the nightcap to earn a split in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference opener for both teams Sunday afternoon.

Clarendon took the first game, 13-7, but Howard came back to take the second game by a 15-5 score.

The Hawks improved their record to 18-8 overall.

In the opener, Clarendon took advantage of ineffective Howard pitching to take the win.

Hawks open Region V with win

March 9, 2012

LUBBOCK – Hard work apparently pays off.

The Howard College Hawks spent much of the week leading up to the Region V junior college basketball tournament fine-tuning their defense and the results of all that preparation were on display Thursday at Lubbock Christian University's Rip Griffin Center.

The Hawks delivered a stunning defensive performance in the first half of their tournament opener and that was more than enough to secure them an 85-57 victory over Weatherford College.
