Coahoma High School head coach Trey Gardner and Forsan head coach Jason Phillips had a lot in common on Friday night as they watched their two teams square off in season-opening “Howard Bowl.” Both were less than pleased with the way their team’s played. Mistakes. Turnovers. Penalties. Missed opportunities. In the end, however, Gardner had a little less to be unhappy about.
Steers win season opener in dramatic fashion with a 41-yard "Hail Mary" pass in the end zone as time expires.
MONAHANS – The Big Spring High School defense had every chance in the world to fold up like a cheap suit on Friday night in front of a large crowd at Estes Memorial Stadium. Sure. At times, they were pushed around more than a lawnmower in Florida as they gave up 364 yards. Sure. They got a little help from the officiating crew that overturned a fourth-quarter touchdown that would have given the Loboes a lead with just ovet 2 minutes to play.
Kyler Franks and Joseph Melendez both rushed for a pair of touchdowns and helped the Bulldogs reel off a convincing 38-7 rout of the McCamey Badgers on Friday in front of a large crowd at Bulldog Stadium.
Jesse Cervantes rushed for three touchdowns on Friday night and helped the Forsan Buffaloes scratch their way into the win column with a dominating 57-0 rout of the Plains Cowboys.

Christoval stuns Buffaloes, 26-20

November 1, 2014

The Christoval Cougars did the unexpected on Friday night. And the Forsan Buffaloes were the worse for it.
Christoval dealt Forsan a stunning 26-20 setback at Jack Pardee Memorial Field. In so doing, the Cougars handed Forsan its third straight loss in as many weeks and all but ended Forsan’s postseason hopes.

Lady Steers wait to find out who playoff foe will be

October 30, 2014

The Big Spring High School Lady Steers know they are in the playoffs ... they just don't know who they will be playing in the first round of the postseason.
The District 2-4A runner-up, Big Spring will face the loser of the District 1-4A "play-in" game in the first round. Dalhart and Pampa are scheduled to play for the No. 3 seed in the District 1-4A race on Saturday at noon.
Big Spring finished the regular season at 19-19.

Bulldogs rally past Stanton, 27-20

October 18, 2014

STANTON – With 27 seconds on the clock and the score knotted at 20-20, Coahoma High School head coach Trey Gardner could have played it safe on Friday night in front of a large crowd at Buffalo Stadium in Stanton.
Taking a knee on third down at their own 32 would have likely meant a fourth-down punt and, in all likelihood, capped a 13-0 second-half run by the Bulldogs that could have led to an overtime period against Stanton.

McCamey stuns Forsan in OT

October 18, 2014

Heading into the week, Forsan High School head coach Jason Phillips said he expected an all-out battle from the McCamey Badgers on Friday night, and that his team would need to stay focused and put together four solid quarters of play to win.
By all accounts, the Buffaloes did just that on Friday night in McCamey.
Unfortunately for Forsan, the game went five quarters.

Minter, Seniors rush to Powder Puff championship

October 17, 2014

The 2014 Big Spring High School Powder Puff Championships featured a little of everything on Thursday night at Memorial Stadium. Guys in skirts, texting referees and cheerleaders scoring touchdowns.
Through it all, Shaylee Franks. Autumn Minter and Jackie Castillo just wanted the ball. So the Seniors gave it to them. It proved to be a wise move by Seniors coaches Matt Yanez, Dee Parker and Charlie Boling. All Franks, Minter and Castillo did was lead the Seniors to a 14-0 victory over the Sophomores in the finals.

Steers open 3-4A play with rout of Tigers

October 11, 2014

SNYDER – The Big Spring High School Steers knew heading into their showdown with the Snyder Tigers that they needed two things. They needed to play better defensively and they needed a win in order to get their District 3-4A schedule off to a good start.

Buffaloes run down Anthony

October 11, 2014

Normally, the Forsan High School Buffaloes like to spread the ball around, using a spread attack to generate astronomical numbers. Friday’s District 2-3A opener at Buffalo Stadium was anything but normal.
