‘Seussical’ on stage Saturday, Sunday

October 17, 2013

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish. Now let's sing!

The Big Spring High School theater and choir departments are breaking out “The Seuss” this weekend for their production of “Seussical the Musical.”

“It's a mash-up of famous Doctor Seuss books such as “Horton Hears a Who,” “Cat in the Hat” — all the oldies but goodies, and we set them to music,” said Tabatha Wright, BSHS theater instructor. “We have roughly 25 students including our Rhapsody group, which is the high school show choir, participating. This came about in the summer. Ms. (Anna) Gann and I got together about this because we knew we had students who could sing. We teamed up to see if we could get a triple act — sing, act and dance and so far we are very pleased with the results.

“We definitely have a strong choir program here at Big Spring,” she continued. “Some of these students have not had any experience in theater and this exposure has been very good for them.”

Tickets are $5 and show times are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the high school auditorium, 707 E. 11th Place.
