‘Warriors’ lining up for triathlon

September 6, 2013

If you want to be a Comanche Warrior now is the time to show your stuff.

The 2013 Comanche Warrior Triathlon will be held Saturday in Comanche Trail Park and it's not too late to register, according to event organizer Debbie Wegman.

“If they haven't registered yet we'll have registration Friday (today) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.,” said Wegman. “We have about 50 registered so far.”

For those who are tech savvy, online registration is still available at permianbasinevents.com

Although the race is a day away, help is still needed. “We could still use some volunteers,” said Wegman. “We need one person with a motorcycle who can be a referee.”

To volunteer, contact Wegman at the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-734-7641 or 263-7641 or at visitbigspring.com

The triathlon includes a 500-meter open water swim in Comanche Trail Lake.

A practice swim for this leg of the race will be held 6 p.m. today for those who may not be familiar with an open swim or who just want a little practice before the actual race.

The bicycle race is 30k along city and county roads to one of the highest elevations in Howard County.

The foot race is a 5K loop on closed trails and roads in Comanche Trail Park with a few good hills.

Price of participation on race day is $70 for individuals and $130 for teams.

Registration and packet pick-up will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Dora Roberts Community Center, located in Comanche Trail Park.
