A 4-year-old child was air-lifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock this morning following a rollover accident on Interstate Highway 20 near the 174 mile marker.
The accident was reported shortly after 8 a.m. when emergency responders were dispatched to a location on the north service road near Interstate Highway 20 across from the Big Spring Department of Public Safety Office.
According to DPS Trooper Matt Munsell, who was helping to investigate the wreck, the rollover occurred when an 18-wheel tractor-trailer attempted to change lanes on the interstate highway without checking the adjacent lane.
“The vehicle that was involved in the rollover was traveling west on Interstate Highway 20 when another vehicle — an 18-wheel truck — tried to change lanes into it and didn't see it,” Munsell said. “The driver of the vehicle that rolled took evasive action to miss being hit by the truck and lost control, causing the vehicle to roll into the north service road.”
