Adopt A Hydrant comes to a close
The silent sentinels have been afforded new wardrobes thanks to some community minded Big Springers. Two hundred fire hydrants were adopted during the Adopt-A-Hydrant contest that ran from May 20 through July 31 with 168 contest entrants. Judging took place Aug. 3, and cash prizes were awarded to the winners. Winning entries in the adult division are: First place, Susan Holbert–Lester, $300 ; second place and $200 – the Watkins family; and third place and $100 – the DeLeon family. Winning entries in the children's division were awarded $50 each and are: First place – Delilah O'Hara; second place – Christopher Chavez; and third place – Jasiah Flores. For the most hydrants painted, a $50 gift card from Wal-Mart was awarded to Lana Anguiano and Emily Flores. The event was sponsored by Frontier Logistics and the Big Spring Fire Department.
