The Big Spring golf team doesn’t have many chances to get out on the course this fall, but until next spring, the Steers have the Andrews Invitational to remind them what this upcoming season can be like.

Particularly, the Steers’ Blake Brorman may be anxious to get back out on the course after what he did last weekend.

The senior golfer shot a 70 in the first round of the Andrews Invitational and followed that up with a 68 in the second round, good for 2-under par for the top individual performance. His 68 in the second round tied the low round record at the course and his 138 set the two-day tournament record.

Brorman said his experience at the Andrews Invitational is something he’ll take into the rest of the fall and try to build on until the Steers’ next tournament, which will be in February.

“First round was pretty tough, he said. “It was cold and windy. I was just trying to survive, make good shots, play my game. Stay inside
myself, not do anything stupid.”

Having a one-shot lead heading into the second day, Brorman staved off any challengers.

Brorman wasn’t the only reason head coach Chris Joslin has reason to be optimistic about this season.

Senior Andrew Filingim tied for fourth with a 147, freshman Tate Kennedy tied for 21st with a 163, sophomore Ryan Pollard shot a 168 for 32nd and sophomore Jason Guevara shot a 174 for 42nd. Joslin’s only girl, freshman Kelsie Guinn, shot a 173 for 11th.
