Air museum to honor vets, unveil new exhibit Friday

November 9, 2011

Ice cream social Friday starting at 10 a.m.

Hangar 25 Air Museum will remember and honor those who served their country at an ice cream social from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and revealing a new exhibit — Hangar History: A Flight Through Time.
“This is going to be an opportunity to do something fun and honor veterans at the same time,” Genevieve Stockburger, museum administrator, said.
The event is open to the entire community.
“Too often, Veterans Day is overlooked and this is a time to recognize the military history of the community,” Stockburger said.
During the ice cream social, the public will be able to view for the first time a timeline of Webb Air Force Base, the bombardier school and reconstruction project of Hangar 25.
“I did a sneak-preview during the Webb Air Force Base Reunion with intentions of doing a full exhibit,” Stockburger said. “I intend this to be the first in a series of exhibits accentuating different time periods of the hangar’s history.”
As always, admission to the museum is free, but donations are accepted. Hangar 25 is located at 1911 Apron Drive.
For those interested in memberships, dues can be purchased at a 20 percent discount until Dec. 31. For more information, visit www.hangar25airmuseum.com.
or call the museum at 264-1999.
