Albert 'Al' Fulcher

Albert “Al” Fulcher, 78, of Elk City, Okla., formerly of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at Myers & Smith Chapel. Burial will follow in Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Ranger, Texas, to Nannie Leone and Jesse Morgan Fulcher. He was raised in Big Spring by his mother and step-father, Blackie Bain. At the age of 17, he joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War. Upon returning from the Korean War, Al attended Howard College and participated in track. He played college football at Ranger College.

He married Nellene (Nell) Parnell on Dec. 8, 1962. He was a sports fanatic and enjoyed watching football on TV and attending his children and grandchildren’s games. In the early 1970’s, Al got involved in the race horse business. He owned and raced thoroughbred and quarter horses throughout Texas, New Mexico and Kansas for several years. He worked for Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance for 31 years before retiring.

He is survived by his wife, Nell Fulcher of Elk City, Okla,; his children, Dennis and Becky Fulcher of Elk City, Okla., Nancy and Carl Levy of Tampa, Fla., Cindy Pittman and Troy Koening of Granbury, Judy Dierlam of Bowie, Kelleigh and Debbie Phillips of San Angelo and Debbie and Chad Ruth of Lakeville, Minn; 12 grandchildren, Carl and LaTasha Levy of Tampa, Fla., Brandi and Shane Mitchell of Sherman, Chris and Rachel Burch of Elk City, Okla., Brooke Pittman of Midland, Alyssa Phillips of San Angelo, Cari and Jason Hughes, of Elk City, Okla., Aymee and Michael Petrella of San Angelo, Brock Pittman, of Midland, Spencer Ruth of Lakeville, Minn., Hunter Ruth of Milwaukee, Wisc., Casi Fulcher of Elk City, Okla., and Chase Fulcher of Elk City, Okla.; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers, J.T. Fulcher of Trinity and Bill Fulcher of Midland; and his sisters, Mary Railsback and Merle Spurlock of Big Spring and Myrna Cobb of Hobbs, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Bain.
Pallbearers will be Chris Burch, Brock Pittman, Hunter Ruth, Chase Fulcher, Shane Mitchell and Jason Hughes.
